They always look worse, infact, thats by design, all that crumpling and deformation is taking all the force out of the crash, rather than transfering it to the occupants.

When I had a head on with a 4 x 4 the car was a complete mess and we were reasonably uninjured, however, the 4 x 4 driver, although the car was fairly unscathed, was reasonably badly injured.
Quote from james12s :as for crash safety the sports are alot better than say a similar age ls becasue it has driver airbag and seat belt pretentioners, another reason for buying the car

It may make is safer for YOU in a crash, however, it doesn't make YOU a safer driver.

I still stand by my comment that the majority of young drivers are complete tools, who think they own the road, and cause a large number of accidents.

I was one of them, except I didn't realise at the time either
lol i agree on the most bit but i intend to definatly not be in the most, and i wasnt saying airbags make me a safer driver lol i was just stating that my car is a model which has srs systems
edit: lol dan i just realised i confused you with stuart, bloddy ni on identical avatars
Quote from james12s :, and really the corsa sprts aint that quick, more nippy. the link in my sig

My 1.2 trip corsa was nippy, but 0-60 in 10.5 seconds is pretty damn fast, especcially for a 1.4.

The quickest standard 1.4 I know of is the MG ZR doing it in 10.0 seconds and when you consider that the MK4 2.0 Golf does it in 10.1 seconds.....it's far from nippy.

As for the driving, your gunna do some stupid stuff in it, you think you wont, but it will happen.
lol ok it is reasonably quick on the 0-60 but they are quite low geared

as for doing stupid stuff, i may but not as much as most lol, im quite a conserved person and i respect the dangers vehicles can pose only too well
Of course your premiums go up when you pass your test. Before that, you need to have an older, more experienced driver with you. After that you're on your own.

And the pidgeonholing based on stats is one of the reasons to try a smaller, local insurance company rather than relying on comparison sites. Sit down with someone and they'll be more likely to tailor the policy to suit you.

Then, if it turns out you don't fit that pidgeonhole, then in a couple of years time your premium will be far lower. I rechecked my costs yesterday on MoneySupermarket (I read a report saying MoneySupermarket and Confused.com together cover about 94% of insurers) and added a single year's NCB. My previous quote from Admiral was about £1100, the new quote dropped to about £520 so even one year is a massive saving.
Quote from james12s :ive just had a look on a couple of the comparison sites and to hypethetically(sp) insure my car as if i had just passed my test on tpf&t the lowest quote i got was from ecar and was £3000 ish with no excess although you cant seem to change that with them

do you think this is about useual for a 1.4 corsa sport or xould i get it a bit lower lol

Have you tried things like saying you keep it on a locked garage, and also limit your miles to say, 4000. None of the companies I've used to insure my bikes have ever checked..

As Dajmin said, go to some local insurance companies and see what they can do. They're, well, smaller, so will try their best to get your buisness and be more flexible..
Yea, they won't check untill you've had an accident.......

The first year of no claims is the most important and will save you the most money, 1 years no claims nocks about 30% off your current quote and when your paying 1500 for insurance it's sure as hell gunna make a differnce.
well i cant say its kept in a locked garage cos we aint got a garage we aint even got a driveway and even if you done have an acident that will still be seen to invalidate your insurance, therefore technically driving without insurance
They might not check, you might get lucky, but if you have an accident with a 20 grand mercedes you can be sure as hell they're gunna find any little reason to invalidate your insurance so they don't have to pay out...
When I was doing research (end of 2006/start of 2007) I found the difference in the quote when you said the car was parked on the street vs garage was minimal (I can't remember exactly, but it was not significant) and the same thing about the maximum annual mileage. Don't give the insurance company any reason to invalidate your policy.
Best thing for cheap young-persons insurance is: GET A SMALL VAN!!!!!
For some rreason, the insurance on vans is a LOT lower...and you still build up your NCB; until the price for a car becomes reasonable.
Quote from danowat :
As for fronting, be very, VERY careful, because although it seems good at the time, insurance companies aren't stupid, and if you have an accident on a fronted policy, not only will you not be insured, you'll also likely be done for fraud, they are very hot on fronting nowadays.

How does that work then, as if you are driving a vehicle that is taxed and tested, and you are a named driver on it then in the eyes of the law surely you have adequate cover to drive the vehicle and so no law has been broken, has it??

Quote from Bawbag :My 1.2 trip corsa was nippy, but 0-60 in 10.5 seconds is pretty damn fast, especcially for a 1.4.

So which was it, a 1.2 or a 1.4, me confused.

Quote from james12s :i just had a look throgh adrian flux, and the gave me a norwhich union quote of 2200, so it getting lower lol

it will be better nearer the time when i can give them real details lol

+10000 for trying adrian flux.

Im 25 and i was paying over £800 TPF&T for my '98 rover 216si as a standard vehicle with CIS as they would not insure modified vehicles, which even included the 15" wheels i was planning to fit because they were classed as a 'cosmetic modification'

So with that, i switched to adrian flux, listed all the mods that i was about to do (i even had all the bits in dads garage ready to be fitted lol) and i now have insured it TPF&T with them as a modified vehicle, which accounts for my sports exhaust system, induction kit, big brakes, alloys, and sound system, and all for just over £300.
I am paying £1600 on a 1994 BMW 318i. Own policy. First car. With Quinn.

The good thing with Quinn is, even on a TPFT policy, you are still insured to drive any vehicle, if it already insured. Regardless of age etc. Comes in handy. My 23 y.o mate who is fully comp cant even drive any vehicle yet and I can

A 1.4 Corsa Sport is always going to a lot for a new driver, given how many new drivers have wrapped them around trees or crashed them. A know a few mew drivers with Corsas and they are all paying over the £2k mark for insurance and that is in a very very very low risk area. Price you have to pay to drive a Corsa/Saxo etc.

I read that you were gonna keep in standard because there isn't many 'unmolested' Corsa Sports around. Fair play to you, you sound like a level headed driver rather than a chav boy racer. Shame the minority of Corsa/Saxo drivers have ruined it for real drivers like you and I.

Main Driver - Main driver of the vehicle.

Named Driver - Not the main driver.

By telling your insurance you a named driver, you are also saying you are not the main driver, and they are providing your insurance on those terms.

If you are the main driver, but have not told the insurance so - you are fronting.

As such, your insurance is void, and your uninsured.

The odds of them catching you are low - but if you end up in an accident with a £30,000 Merc they will do anything to get out of paying.

It works by the fact that you are commiting fraud by telling them someone else is the main driver, when they aren't.

As for being caught, they are very hot on it these days, and have special claims adjusters that look into it.
To be brutally honest, the concept of "fronting" seems to only apply to YOUNG drivers...example: I have 2 cars registered to me..they are both insured by me, in my name.
On one of the cars, (the Civic) my wife is a 'named driver', however, she is also declared as my wife on the policy.
The insurance company is fully aware that I hardly ever drive the Civic, and that for the vast majority of the time it is 'her' car in everything but name...

and they dont give a toss!

But how would they know?

If you were driving around in a fully veilside bodykitted EK civic coupe or something with a spoiler the size of a formula 1 car rear wing, flip paint with glitter in, five sets of foglights, 18" alloys, an exhaust the size of a dustbin and a 200 decibel stereo with about 4 subs in the boot and neons then yeah, its pretty obvious that the chances of your mum or dad driving it most of the time are very remote,

But, if it was a totally standard 106/corsa/fiesta with just a basic cd player and maybe a nice air freshener, then how can it be proven?

Im not saying that its the right thing to do if you are driving it all the time, but thats how i survived my first year of having a car while still having any money left to put fuel in it, as my mum used to drop me off at work in it and i used it evenings and weekends, which is probably the proper way, as we were both using it, her probably more than i was.

Call your place of work, neighbours, school etc - it has been done.
Never discount the willingness of an insurance company to wriggle out of a claim, they know, they aren't stupid.

Of course they don't care, you are paying them, TBH, they don't care if your policy is completely fraudulent, however, that all changes when you make a claim of significant value.

Its up to the individual, the risk is there, its your choice if you think the risk is worth it, and a lot of people do, doesn't make it right.
insurance companies are very god at wrigling out, there are even teams of people at insurance companies whos job it is to scan car mags for feature cars etc, its even to the point were total vauxhall put a disclaimer in there dyno test section about it
Quote from Bladerunner :try Quinns of NI: http://www.quinn-direct.com/uk/

they are the loonies...

Damn right, they want £1879 from me to insure my car. I don't think so!

Quote from amp88 :Did the comparison website include Admiral? They were the cheapest when I started looking for insurance.

Quote from Dajmin :Admiral were invariably the cheapest insurer...

Yep, that's who I'm currently with, my renewal is £460. Undercutting everyone else by at least a hundred quid.

Quote from Dajmin :However, both Adrian Flux and Sky Insurance

Hmm, seems I need to actually phone both of them. Might try that tomorrow, you never know what figures they'll suggest.
adrian flux can give you an online quote for a standard car, you need to phone them about specialist

Sorry if it was unclear, James described his 1.4sport as "nippy" but for me, my 1.2 corsa which took 16 seconds to get to 60 was "nippy" and his 1.4 sport doing it in 10.5 seconds which is pretty damn quick.
