I'm in it because my family owns some of the nicest and most original examples of classic Lancia's in the country, thus it's actually quite common when a magazine want to borrow the car for a photoshoot or do an article on one of them or a group of them. That Monday I was at home, on holiday from uni, and I was doing domestic things. As such I was relatively unoccupied, so I got to drive the cars whilst the business carried on as normal (i.e. not understaffed). So I spent most of the day pushing, waxing, arranging and driving cars, either drive by's or following/being followed by a camera car.

And afterwards the journalists wanted to 'have a go' in the Stratos, so I got the job of slightly quick drives round some of the brilliant roads near my house. It not every day the Stratos comes out to play, but when it happens I'm first in the queue.

Mikko: What the Stratos is like? Small, confined, twitchy, sexy, brilliant, lethal...

It's a short wheelbase. It has a fast steering ratio. It has rear wheel toe-out. It has the Ferrari engine at the back (ok mid, just). Needless to say that it's always wanting to be sideways. I'm convinced it actually has less rolling resistance sideways Oh, and you don't need the steering wheel. You either think it round corners, or you do it ALL on the throttle (and road camber).

In short it's brilliant. But it's nowhere near as fast as people think it is. It's only 190bhp, and although it's light and reasonably aerodynamic, it's not that much faster than was an 1800 MX-5 in acceleration, and it tops out at 140mph. But speed is for girls. You cares when you never ever need to slow down, and you look that good. If you go too fast people just can't see you as well
