Ive recently moved ISP's due to poor customer service.
My new ISP caps my usage per month however my home network is shared between computers.

Is there anyway of restricting the throughput to other computers on my home network?
It depends if your router has Quality of Service controls. If it does, you should be able to fiddle around with it.

Out of interest, how big is the cap that's put on your service?
5 - 6gb per month i think, why do u ask?

my router has masses of options & it looks complicated, i think i will be OK this month.

5-6GB a month?! I don't understand how you can live with that...
Even playing around a bit, downloading some skins etc will already give difficulties.. Downloading a demo from a game will be a huge problem..
I hope exceeding the limit won't cost you much.
I use 5-6GB a day..
Damn, I've recentley downgraded to a lower usenet package to save me money, dropping my usenet download cap to 37.8GB per month. I feel this is enough for an intermediate downloader like myself. 6GB is really tiny for broadband (you can download more than that each month on dial-up!), I hope you're paying very little for such a restricted service.

I can't understand such services are still offered.. Like here you get unlimited 4mbit/1mbit broadband for €15 a month

I think Bob was talking about a Usenet package (as distinct from a package from his ISP). Also, almost all the time an ISP says "unlimited" bandwidth they'll have a Fair Usage clause in the terms & conditions, so if you are using 100% of the available bandwidth 24/7 they will kick you off. I speak from experience from when I was on a 512k package

Never had any trouble with my ISP and I'm averageing 180GB a month.. Mine costs €20 a month
Bob was speaking of Usenet. But in second sentence about a full internet connection of 6GB...

I know people in this country who're averageing at 400-600GB a month. Most ISP's have a fup, but they're not stopping anyone. (The DSL providers that is), Cable are holding people from downloading more than about 100GB a month.
Thanks for the suggestions & insight. I am only paying £10 a month for my current service can anyone recommend an decent unlimited service for less than £15 per month? (UK)

Infact I doubt i would ever exceed 10GB in a month so 10GB cap would be doable.
I use www.newnet.co.uk - best ISP I've ever used, not sure if they're in your area or not.

Low prices, great speed and really high unlimited usage.
what are these limits you're talking about

o2 broadband the best customer service you might ever get, and if you are with o2 on either a pay as you go sim or contract its only £7.34 for the basic package which is unlimited with no fair usage policy. And is up to 8meg.

Im with them, really worth looking into them more
Quote from Bob Smith :Contradiction?

Well it is, but they all say unlimited with fair usage don't they?

For under £20 I've used 100 gigs before now without as much as a reminder email - and no I don't download movies from Bittorrent, not every high bandwidth user is a pirate:

Not all, enta have (or at least they did when I was with them) a very expensive unlimited service, but I have no doubts that is completetly unlimited. Their limited accounts had sensible caps too, like 100, 200, 300, or 400gb per month.

Edit: It seems all their caps got dropped quite a lot earlier this year: http://www.ukfsn.org/home/internet/adsl/
