I am wanting to create a website that will fit on any resolution monitor and not fixed to a certain resolution, so in Dreamweaver it's a liquid template and not a fixed template. My problem is though, is that I want to create my site graphics/design in Photoshop but you can only make these on a fixed resolution.

What I would like to know is, what the best way to create a website that uses a template made in Photoshop and then imported into Dreamweaver to create a site that will automatically resize to the users screen resolution when the website in loaded up in a browser?

If anyone doesn't catch what I mean, I will try to explain in more detail, I am a little tired at the moment so may not be that understandable lol.

okay i know what you mean , and i know how you can do it.

but as always with website there are 100 ways to approach this, And you need to find the one that you like.

Way 1:
Work with "div", basically what this means is that you make little pictures form example 3px by 5px and you repeat it every time. (in the comment you will find the idea).

Positive:
- Looks Great
- Many Photoshop / Dreamweaver abilities

Negative:
- Time that taking to make
- Not Compatible to all the browser
- Long loading time

Explanation picture:
Part 1: Left Corner
Part 2: Repeat it 20 time for 100px , repeat it 100 times for 500px, etc
Part 3: Right Corner (made this lined up with part 2 J)
Part 4: Repeat if you want to make it longer
Part 5: This is a Very Very Very hard to code Part. Nearly impossible I would say, because This Part don’t know anything. I should get linked to Part 4, but It can’t because it’s not having a default size. (it is possible to code)

Way 2:
Make 5 Websites designs

Positive:
- Compatible to every browser

Negative:
- You need to make the same layout 5 times



Way 3:

Maybe you can do it with smart tables ( only not sure)


in both ways you need to make a very smart system that is reading out the resolution from the user. to select the right website format.

Just my conclusion:
Don’t Do it, it will bring you more work that advantages. I don’t know any website out there that is using this. Basically, Most of the Web Developers are using 970px now the days. This is because everybody is having at least 1024 these days

So is there one resolution I should stick to when making a website? It's only going to be a personal website but I want it to fit right on various resolutions.

I was thinking of learning how to make a flash website as you can get away with making small flash websites but they just seem to look tacky.

Well no ideally your site should be able to be viewed on anything from a 320* mobile device to a 1600* monitor, which is achievable through css/html with different media stylesheets and a fixed fluid design. If you want to have a fixed design then you need to decide what your target audience is.

Dont bother with flash when the same thing can be done with html.

To do it properly you need to learn CSS. It's fiddly and frustrating but there are loads of tutorials on the web. Better still, you can download CSS templates pre-built so you can adapt it accordingly, but you'll still need a basic understanding of DIV tags and CSS layout basics.
