I think it would be nice to have another button (similar to pause/car/view left of the progress indicator bar) that basically does what Shift+F does, but with the addition of hiding all chat messages also.

This would enable anyone to view the replay in trackside/TV cam view, without any text, and without knowing all the KB shortcuts.
I've been asked more about LFS, when people have seen replays playing on my PC(in the background so to speak) some have said it looks more like watching a TV race that way

I am 100% sure that if you press SHIFT+F twice duing a replay, the messages are hidden too. I tested it now. Proof:
