No it's not the speed. It's the show of skill, both driving and technical. The political intrigue. Touring cars, for me, is slightly rubbish drivers barging into each other, in cars that look like the rubbish you find in showrooms.
They just do nothing for me. But every F1 race us edge of the seat stuff for me.
Max wants to be firmly in control, preferably with some handcuffs and whips.. :S
Just an FYI, I'm not one of those idiots that thinks that F1 is all computer and no skill, but I love the slight rubbishness of it all, call me ignorant, but I love to see stuff explode. Besides, for a test of skill, I prefer something like rally or hillclimb.
F1 has next to no computers in it now anyway. Not on the car anyways, only the gearbox really. Heck even rally cars have launch control (i think anyway)

An F1 car is filled with computers. Even the steering wheel is a computer. Then you have the obvious: ECU, transmission, and telemetry.

Yes, he has the media spotlight on him at the moment, and that could be very useful to him in whatever he does next. It's not just a matter of domme/sub roleplay (another thing Max is partial too) but also fame. This row is raising his public profile substantially, and the thing about wealth, fame, and power, is that to other people of wealth fame and power it doesnt really matter how much of an arse you are - they just respect the wealth fame and power.
That's why we're seeing lots of press releases from Mosley and not a lot from the teams. Max is trying to keep the spotlight on himself as an individual - that's even evident in the text of his letter, which is very narcissistic.
Irrespective of what people may think of Max, I for one am in agreement with him on this specific issue. FOTA have been going on about the need for proper governance in the sport and then they go and pull a school playground stunt like as this to start spreading misinformation and misrepresenting the deal that was made. All extremely unprofessional and immature behaviour. If that is how FOTA and it's representatives behave they are no more worthy of running things than Max or anyone else at the FIA.
IMO F1 if full of arrogant immature egotistical idiots with no understanding of fairness or sportsmanship who are willing to do "whatever it takes" to "Win" on all sides. From half the drivers up through the team managements and through to FOTA and the FIA.

It's just spin from Mosley, I think. I find it inconceivable that "..he is under pressure to stand for re-election from other members of the sport's governing body.."
The manufacturer members of FOTA are not just involved in F1. Their engines and their influence permeates almost every level and series in motor sport around the world. We already know that the F1 fans have absolutely no affection for Mosley.. they/we've been vocal enough on that score recently. Members of the FIA at local levels are no less fans of motor sports. I just simply don't accept that they back Mosley, given the risk that he's running to F1 and, as a subsequence, the entire hierarchy of the motor sport industry.
IF these fictional, unnamed "members" around the world are calling for Mosley to stand again, fully in the knowledge that it would, in and of itself, spell the end of Formula 1 as we know it, then the separation between FIA and motor sports fans is even more stark than anyone had previously imagined.
IF Luca Di Montezemelo came out and said "Mosley's exit from FIA is absolutely in no way, at all, a victory for F1 and FOTA", we'd all look at him as if he's fallen out of his tree. We KNOW it's a victory for them, and for us too.
As for being described as a "dictator", firstly Di Montezemelo didn't call him that, he said that it was important that F1 was not led by a dictator. Mosley's inferred the reference is at him - and that's just a guilty conscience.
The fact is that he HAS acted in an entirely autocratic and dictatorial way. So he's elected by the FIA, but Hitler was elected. So he has the WMSC backing him up.. Hitler had a government backing him up. Just because a process has a democratic element to it doesn't mean that at its head is NOT a dictator. We only have to look at the ridiculous governance asserted on the F1 teams over the last 2 years to know that, whether Mosley likes the term "dictator" or not, that damn cap fits!
What Mosley is effectively complaining about is that, despite what he perceived as an agreement to LIE about who gave in to what last Wednesday, some damn pesky Ferrari guy went and told SOME of the truth.
