Windows movie maker problems..
Well, after making a few videos at dance island, i thought i would merge them all together and cut/edit bits using movie maker to make a nice little movie to stick on youtube, but i am having a problem....

No matter what i do, the damn thing just will not save the movie file, i just get a generic and totally unhelpful error message (see pic) which really means, 'something is wrong, but f--k knows'.

I have tried literally every single option and file type to save it in, and none of them will work.

I know that all the source files are still there (on the desktop) so it isn't that, i have checked all my codecs, and my memory is all fine, i mean, to save a vid of just over 9 minutes long, (and about 85-120mb depending on which file type i pick), i would thing that 1gb of physical ram and 2gb of virtual ram should be more than adequate to do it.

I have heard that replacing some dll's can sometimes fix it, but because i obviously can't save my work, doing something that requires me to shut down WMM isn't really gonna help me very much as i will lose everything i have done.

Is there any other things that i can try to fix this, as i have tried a few things that i found via google, but they didnt make any difference.

ahh that error. I got that a few times when saving either long videos made up of lots of clips or very big files. What you need to do is chop up the movie into smaller segments - save them all as say 2 minute long clips then open those videos in windows movie maker and save them as one video
Could be that then, ill give it a try, although the whole lot isn't that long as its about 9 mins, just to make sure it'll fit on youtube.

It may be unrelated, but when i imported some of the videos into wmm, they were split into randomly sized bits in the collections part, there would be some bits about a minute or so long, and then some bits only a couple of seconds long as well, but when put on the timeline in order it plays ok.

Ill try breaking it up as you say mook, lets hope it works!
You men window movie maker works longer then 20 secocnd now without freezing
if you treat it carefully it does
That error, im not sure but if i remember right then it means that the video file is too big. It can save max 2.5gb files and u can use max of 2.5gb videos to make a movie. Just cut the video in parts and later export the both parts and compile them up again and export again in full movie.

Next time dont use movie maker ... simple
Actually i just hate it, its just a program what kills your nerves.

Bit of a long shot. Are you trying to save it to a location that would need administrator priveleges? Try saving it to a secondary partition (D drive if you have one).
Right, i have narrowed it down to one specific clip that is causing the crash, the same clip that magically pauses itself when playing it on the timeline as well, which is probably alot to do with it, so i am re-encoding that clip on its own, then hopefully it'll work.
