SO Classic Setup Advice Needed
Hi folks,

After experimenting with most of the cars and tracks I've decided on SO Classic with the Formula XR as my favourite. Despite tons of practice I can't get below 43.5 secs, which although respectable is a second or more off some people's times. I've tried borrowing setups and tinkering with my own, but can't find a winning formula.

In short, what are the best setup tweaks for this track - I've tried low and high downforce, but having driven onboard with others, they all seem to take the final fast corner in 5th at about 105mph(kph?) and carry the speed all the way down to the finishing line - no matter what I try I always end up dropping down under 100mph and I think this is where I am losing time. Either that or I go way to fast and pile into the barriers! My best split time is a fraction over 24sec.

If you know this track well, I'd welcome your advice!

Cheers,

Ali
Post a replay of your best time. I've found all three corners at SO to be very difficult, and getting a perfect lap almost impossible.

The first hairpin is very difficult, but you should aim to be in the power on the apex, with a relatively late turn in.
The chicane is hard - don't brake, I think you should just lift. And accuracy is rewarded here, so be brave if you can. I can't remember exit speeds.
The last corner is also hard - don't brake too late (perhaps don't brake at all, I can't remember), and get on the power early with the car right on the limit. Don't steer too much - you want the fronts to be 'just' squealing, but not loudly. And use as much kerb as the car wants, don't force it to stay in the middle of the track.

But post a replay and we can point out where you're going wrong. If you've tried lots of setups I'm almost 1000% certain it's not a setup thing.
I have a similar problem.......I have managed a 43.0 but the 41 sec laps that the real faster drivers are clocking seem a little bit out of reach. The problem I seem to find is that these drivers power out of 1st corner alot faster than I.....but if I then change to a more aggressive setup I just lose the back end when accelerating.
Just sounds like a question of talent to me. Practise guys, practise.
I've driven oly a couple of races on this cours, and between dodging wrecked vehicles, lap traffic, and wankers that seemed to want to drive the wrong way, I managed a shoddy 45.45. I'll probably practice this track a bit more, as it was a fun race (besieds the BS). But, Bob's right, it's not so much a setup thing, it's more of a practice thing.

SO city is bumpy. So if you feel your cart ain't giving you the handling you are expecting from it then raise the suspension, it might be hitting the stops and causing the car to become unbalanced.
I dunno if Tristran has driven it since the new patch, but T3 is now really easy, at least with my set, i can take it flat in 5th, and have an exit speed of about 107mph.
But as he said, it's T1 and the chicane where you make up all the time. I find a slightly early turn in to T1 works best for me, and letting the back end drift abit gives me good acceleration out of it, (the "new" FOX seems to respond well to this
Then the chicane is just a test of courage, (kind'ov) , As Tristran said, you lift off, don't brake, but, many a time i come outta there knowing i could have been quicker, i've had the perfect line (again, letting the car drift a touch), but i've held off full power too long, (i think the highest exit speed ive seen is about 97/98 mph)

You can try my set if you want ?

But, it's basically as everyone else has said, practice, practice, practice.

I've only race'd against Tristran a couple of time's, but he is alot quicker and more experienced than me, so you'd probably be better off listening to him,

but, everyone has their own driving style, and, if you can get/find a setup that fit's your's, then you'll be knocking second's off your PB's and not just 10th's
I'll give you an example: A few night's ago,I'd been racing at FE Gold, and then switched to South City Long, the race was starting as i entered, so just made it to the grid. It was an 8 lap race, and i got my PB down from Mid 35's to Mid 33's in that one race , well pleased with myself i went to the pit's, and realised i was using the FE set, Wow, i thought, how quick am i gonna be with my SO set !!!, put it on, next race, sure enough, i was back in the 35's , next race put the FE set on, and Gor' blimey, another new PB
,and it's got bad understeer too !!!

So, as far as Setups are concerned, i havn't a clue ?, i just know what feels right for me, and my time's improve when i feel comfortable with it,

Anyway try it, see if you like it
I suppose it would help if i actually put the file in the post illepall
I have played SO1 FOX since the patch, but I can't really remember speeds or brake/throttle for each corner very well off the top of my head. I think I have a set that can take the final corner flat, but it's actually quicker to lift for a fraction a second - you understeer a little less and easily regain the time and more on the start-finish straight. Exit speed can be 108 or 109 if you do that.

But listen to Mazz, cos he's not slow either!
hi folks - thanks for all the replys.
Been practising till my eyes go funny and making some progress - was stalled around the 43sec mark, but then acquired a good setup and am down to 42.5 which is enough to be up at the sharp end in races (assuming I can get through T1 without being wiped out!)
Still can't see where the extra second would come from to get to the 41.5 that some people can do, but I'm sure as hell going to try!
This game is simply the most stunning and addictive racer I've ever played - not bad for a load of 1s and 0s!!!
See you online soon!

LOL

:iagree:

It's all in the arrangement of the 1s and 0s, which Scavier seem to be quite talented at!
