Virgin media, sucking hard?

So here I am writing to myself in note pad, why? because for the 2 nights my internet completely craps up at about 10/11pm and does the exact same thing each time, disconnects re connects, when it's connected it's massively unstable etc. This started happening a couple of weeks ago, it done it say 2 nights out of 5, I thought it was just maintenance on the lines or something.

I've heard some other people complaining that their service has also started to give problems. I've had the connection about a year and minus a few problems where everyone on my grid lost internet the connection has been great, allways stable and very rarely dropped out, i'm sick of phoning the samn call centers, because whether I get one in India or one in England, they still give me the same bullshit "Have you tried reconnecting the modem?" What else can be done if these connection problems persist? Has anyones connection actually been "fixed" after complaining to their ISP?

I've been with Virgin Media ever since the Blueyonder days, and have never had a major problem with them. I was getting problems about a month ago though. The internet was shutoff for the whole day, and then i was suffering constant disconnecting for about 2 or 3 days but now its stopped. Ever since then, its been great and i cant complain.

Same, never had any problems with them, but I have heard it's a different story up north.

No probs whatsoever here with Virgin. Been with them for 10 months and only recall having no internet for about 2 hours one day, that was months ago.

No issues with them here, aside from only getting about 6Mb instead of the advertised 10Mb.

we got a free upgrade from 2mbps to 10mbps, very pleased, except it keeps swithing between 2, 7.5 and 10mbps lol

No issues here but i would guess it's only your area that could be affected

Same happening at my sis house, got a free change, but still unstable. Keeps switching back and forth

Anyways, no problems at my end

It might be that they are perfoming the maintenance to give people the free 10mb in your area, therefore the cables are being messed with or something

Bawbag, where in scotland are you. I'm about to move to Edinburgh and was looking at Virgin. Glasgow was a nightmare for Virgin but we had telewest in Edinburgh aeons ago and it was super fast.

Bawbag, phone virgin. Apparently some of the older modems (the moterolas i believe) are trying to connect to a 50meg stream at times, and are theirfore causing massive packet loss etc whilst it tries to figure out what to do with itself.

The way they have dealt with it so far has been to replace the modem with one of the newer ones.

At least thats what they told me last week when i phoned them about my tinternet.

I'm near Falkirk, though my girlfriend has VM and she's in Edinburgh, most of the time it's a complete pain in the ass, at peak times she's lucky to get 200kbps, reminds me of dial up when I try to do anything.

I might look into that 50mb thing, as my router is an old Motorolla, though this morning when I had a quick go it seemed fine, always seems to just switch late at night for some reason.

I'll see if it continues, but hopefully it's just something to do with maintenance on the lines, or maybe the lines are being disrupted by the nearly motorway work, 4 miles or motorway is being converted to 3 lanes and i'm right next to said motorway, so maybe they're drilling into my cables and haxxing my interwebz.

Downloaded something last night at 30kbps. Yes, 30. On 'broadband'.

Well I think 200kbps downloading is about 30kb, but still, should be able to download at 1mb/s easily on the 10mb broadband that they pay for.

The biggest issue I have is using WiFi, the router can only support 256KBp/s so that is all I get, if I plug in I get the full 1,280KBp/s.

30 kbps is speed, 30 kb is amount.

30 kb = 30 kilobits, 30 kB or KB = 30 kilobytes.

I couldn't really care about all the technicalities, i'm pretty sure that people can still understand that the max download speed you will get from a 200kbps line is about 30kb per second.

what i think ke means is that a bit = b and byte = B

so 200kbps = 30kBps

Argh, Internet keeps turning off every 20 minutes, First time this has happened in a long time (4 Days). Damn.

256Kb = 32KB (or 256/8=32)

Lower and upper case makes a big difference.

I have had a problem recently with my internet connection. Between around about 5pm and 1am the internet is dreadfully slow. Using the Nvidia drivers as a download, at 12noon I get ~300kb/s, at 12 midnight it struggles to even reach 30kb/s... Goddamn Orange.

OK This is ridiculous.

I started a 350MB Download at about 6-ish, it's downloaded 211MB now [9.47] (That's 60%)

Current speed: 18.1kbps.

On tiscali 2MB line with Wireless Modem, but that doesn't slow it down at all really.
