I bought a set of Z5500's (mega bargain ftw), however I'm not really sure how to plug them in - I'm currently using my old 3 plug stereo 3.5mm connector thing from my X540's, however I'm wondering if I should be using a optical, coax, SPDIF or whatever.

I have an X-Fi XtremeMusic but can swap to an X-Fi Elite Pro if I need to.

Also - the leads are quite short, can anyone recommend some long wire for the speaker in the far corner in my room? Looking for about 15-20 feet so it goes around the edge of the room.

SDPIF imo, I can't hear difference between that and optical.
Those 3 plugs are good enough, it's quite overrated imo.

BTW if your wondering how big the Z5500 sub is compared to my old X540's...

I acctually use my z-5500 subwoofer as a bedside table its so big haha.

You want a digital connection rather than analogue.

Use either optical or coax, there won't be much difference.

As for cable, the distances you're running coax will be just fine, and it will be much cheaper than the optical, you really don't notice the difference between those until you start running them over 50 ft (if you're like have crazy insane hearing and swear you hear a difference.. imo its just the placebo effect), but really don't actually hear a difference until hundreds of feet.

Just go to a local .. I don't think you guys have RadioShack, but whatever store like that is similar, probably just a standard 4 gauge wire should be beyond plenty.

I got them for £100, XCNuse, plus my old speakers will sell for £40. £60 was well worth it to get away from the awful X540's.

Ohh okay, I have the x230, which was $50, nice speakers I think, lightweight and easy for travel!

lol that's some serious speakers there though, that's like the useless 15" sub we have downstairs which is so insane no one touches it, friend gave it to me for free thought it wasn't working... plugged it in to TV.. all the walls shook in the house.. it works lol!
