Problem with patch T.

Quote from CSU1 :Im sorry if this doesn't belong here but I am in deep doodoo.
Shortly patching LFS with vT, my laptop "Toshiba EA60" started acting funny,
for instance when i click on the IE icon to go to Google or whatever as soon as i hover over it with my mouse it crashes and hence the obligitary error msg.
Also none of my Norton network utills nor the anti-virus will open up to a window> same thing hover over it with the mouse and Gone! ???
What's going on here is beyond me as I ain't too hot with Windoze..
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

1) you may notice this is not fault of LFS as it doesnt store any files in windows folders or in windows registry so it doesnt mess up your system at all.

2) Did you installed any new drivers or software around the time you installed the new patch?
3) Can you check the temps of your CPU or even GPU? Might sound like overheating problem.
4) Try to test your memory with some memorytest software.

Sounds like you've been infected with something. Time to break out Windows System Restore (in accessories menu). Unfortunately you have Norton installed so this robust security feature has quite possibly been disabled, if so - it's time to break out the Windows CD.

Gotta love Norton for replacing the one very good security & recovery feature of Windows with something completely inferior... :/

I love Norton, and I have never and will never use the system restore feature. It's a complete load of crap in my opinion, and causes more problems (and resource hogging) than Norton ever will. But let's no go off topic, and it's just my opinion.

All I can say those problems are not LFS-related, unless you downloaded the patch at some crap site with a virus in it. You should try to boot from a boot CD that contains a backup program, and make a backup of the whole partition where windows is installed. Then, you should use a boot CD that has an Anti Virus Program, and scan your drives from there.
If you dont have such a CD, well.... I dont know what features Norton provides, but if you have bought it, it should be possible to have a boot CD in the package.
If you have no clue about booting from a CD, you should ask a friend or some specialist, but those are quite expensive I guess :s

OT: Norton sucks, DriveImage and Acronis ftw
ok, the windows restore sucks even more than Norton

Hi,

I just remembered my friends had the same issue but on desktop machine.
One had bad graphic card which was replaced and my other collegue had faulty memory which was replaced as well.

Hope its not the same issue on your side.

Try to first run antivirus and also some Spyware/adware cleaner program.Hope this will help.
If not.....try new graphic and chipset drivers.

Then I would test the memory and graphic card.
