Umm... how much further ahead Baricelohololhol's car was? The object had to have been mid-air when Massa arrived at the scene and I can't imagine a solid torque-bar (spring?) bouncing around for very long.
"1404: Brawn have confirmed to the BBC's Ted Kravitz that Rubens Barrichello's car had a "piece of rear suspension missing" when it returned to the pits. That's presumably what the marshalls are looking for. Q3 will begin at 1410 BST."
There you have it. Barrichello lost something. They said Massa is now conscious and speaking. Frightening crash, you could see how the helmet visor broke and his head bounced. Not something nice to see.
The moment I saw it I thought of the Schumacher incident when his brakes failed. Anytime a car ends up that deep into a tyre wall you know it's a serious accident. I just hope he is okay, but that replay is scary.
i think that thing knocked massa out and he had both feet on the pedals at the same time. hence he was braking but the engine was still pushing him forward, so he just locked up his front brakes. Would explain why the car was still going when in the tyre wall too i guess.
Scarily similar to what happened to Henry Surtees a few days ago, with tragic results for him.
I wonder if these two (admittedly freak) accidents like this in one week will trigger some sort of rethink in the safety features of single-seaters? Enclosed bubble-canopies?
