Seriously thinking about upping to S1 - but
Hi All,

Surely thinking about going for an upgrade to S1, however one small point I'd like to know about first; I have a small pet peeve with this so far and that is that when I click to exit, it's does a couple of advert pages before clearing off, does it still advertise like that once upgraded to S1?

I was in and out of the software for quite an extended spell trying to set a few things up how I wanted them, and that "feature" really got very old very quick during that session. I now wince every time I see it.
AFAIK, there are no adverts when exiting LFS, just the game credits and stuff like that.

And if it were me, i would skip s1 and just go s2.
It's 2 (IIRC) pages with credits which disappear immediately with a simple mouse click. Nothing to get too worked up about, IMO.

And +1 to the suggestion of getting S2 straight away (if you have the money) since 99% of active racers are S2 licenced by now and you won't be able to join 3/4 of the servers.
Thanks for quick responses guys.

I just got fed up with seeing it, and I'm just a miserable very ancient chap who stills thinks that "you pays your money and takes your choices" has something of a ring about it.

I'm trying to ponder the wisdom of paying to be irritated! Never mind paying two lots for that. (S1& S2)

I'd probably not join (m)any races on line but a mate of mine across the pond and I would be happy enough to race each other for the hell of it every so often. So we are both thinking on it right now.

Also I'm more into off road, and got the distinct impression that S2 had rather less off road to offer than S1. Do all tracks have a rally cross option? Could not see one way or another despite doing some looking, but possibly in wrong places to find out.

Has been quite a lot of fun so far.

If that's what you will use LFS mainly for, S1 would be enough.

There are only 3 rallycross tracks at the moment. The one at Blackwood (which you most likely have already seen since it is included in the demo) and 2 tracks at Fern Bay. Also, the only S2 exclusive car suitable for rallycross is the UF1, all the others (STD, TBO and the 2 LX) are already available in S1.

So if you only want to play against your friend and want to race on rally combos (and you can put up with the "adverts" :P), S1 will be enough. You can always upgrade to S2 at a later time for the same price.

Only Blackwood and Fern Bay have rally cross tracks. Fern Bay has two, a really short one and a longer one.

LFS is not an off-road game so you will be disappointed if you buy it for that.
Thanks very much for the second opinion on all that, I really appreciated it. We've been messing with it for about 5 days so far and like it quite well.

We can't possibly know enough yet, but it's good to see that one who has spent some time on it sees why we are thinking S1 for now would be best bang for the buck so to speak. S2 would be nice, of course, but it offers to bring nothing to the table for my particular area of interest. That's rather a shame really, I quite like more choice, it's often good to have.

Not sure what to think about the adverts issue, the only certainty with it is that the button marked exit does not do what it says on the tin. And it could at least have a timeout rather than just sitting there like a lemon. Can't see what purpose it serves once you've paid money for the thing. As a half way house I'd be happy enough to see and S2 advert if I only got S1, that would make more sense and be fair game, I'd probably pay 12 quid just to stop it doing that frankly! A credits button, now that's a thought, what about that as a half decent compromise?

Thing is, it's like there so often you just don't read it at all, like all the other advertising we get thrust at us whether wanted or not. Probably something to do with less is more.

Oh well, I digress. I may have to give it all a lot more thought.

Thanks once again for the info, and the speed with which it was delivered.
If you don't want to see the credits just shift+f4 and x out the window..
If you unlock LFS you only have to click once on the credits screen to exit, there aren't any advertising screens like in demo mode. Alternatively you can just use ALT-F4 which instantly shuts down LFS.

sorry is you already know this but by the sound of some of your posts u dont.
When you buy S2 u get all the s1 content plus the s2 content.so u dont have to buy s1 and s2 if u want the most possible content,u just have to buy s2
Thank you all very much, your answers made it pretty clear pretty quick which way to go, went for S1 and very happy with it. My mate and I just had a tear about exploring the longer of the two Fern Bay rally cross tracks and had a blast.

Lots of fun and so much to explore now. We can only hope there might be more rally cross eventually, it's been handled in a way which makes it fun to drive just for the sake of driving it; even on your own, simply to see if you can get the oddities in each track down to a fine art.

I guess if there was water added, then it would make it totally complete from my standpoint! Rainy day option anyone?
Good decision, grats.

Yes, it was indeed. Even made a start on a skin today as well as being blown away by one or two new motors! The 4WD was an interesting new experience to say the least!

I could not have made such a good choice without all the ideas and info you guys threw at me!

Thanks all.
