I reckon I'll be picking up a copy of this. Love LBP and the nearly endless possibilities, and stuff like Elasto-Mania (which now appears to be called X-Moto). Can't wait to see what crazy ideas the players come up with.
Just hopped home and downloaded the trial at lunch there. Fairly simple stuff. Being confined to one plane means there's no way to avoid obstacles or anything, but keeping yourself upright is a challenge in itself.
Didn't get much chance to play with the level designer, and it's not quite as "design anything you like" as LBP is, but it still has loads of potential. The way to manipulate objects confused me at first, but then clicked once I figured it out. Weird thing is that you have to actually tell individual objects to be affected by physics, they don't do it by default. I guess that's for when you want to make your own structures that wouldn't stand up otherwise. There is a nifty "glue to" option as well as copying and pasting. Could maybe use more objects, but there's still quite a selection to choose from and seeing what people throw up could be really cool.
Will be grabbing the full version when I get home. Just a shame there's no multiplayer of any kind.
I never played the Flash version, so I'm new to the whole thing. Of course I did get a lot of Elastomania practice in and liked games like Pro Mountain Bike Sim on the Spectrum, so I knew what to expect
It's been a while since I've played a game that makes me wave my arms around, pressing buttons harder as if it helps, but Trials does it. There are some seriously crazy levels in there, and a few of them I can't for the life of me complete. Working on my own level at the moment (called Rooftop Rampage - add me on XBL if you want it when it's done) and I'm discovering how deep the editor is. But it needs an "un-glue" option.
I was trying to beat all your scores yesterday! I already felt satisfied, but now as you say you've never really played the game before... LOL!
Ohh, and I'll gladly test your track once it's finished.
The game can indeed be a little frustrating sometimes. But that's what i love so much about it. When you find yourself at some obstacle, and you start thinking "how on earth should i possibly clear this thing?!!!", and then start to try different techniques to make it to the other side. And then, when you finally dicovered how to get past the obstacle, the rewarding feeling of accomplishment!
I'm pretty impressed with the game. The detailed physics of the bike are great, so much better than previous versions. Analogue controls sure do help a lot in this game aswell. Once you discover the possibilities of the bikes, it's great fun to make your way through the levels (especially the harder ones). I got gold medals on all tracks up to medium difficulty, and am trying to get the rest of them too... will take ages on the hard ones.
I've played for about eight hours yesterday, pretty much without any breaks inbetween. Usually only happens when a game is really good.
ive downloaded the demo of the one on Xbox 360, never played trials before, seen it on Steam but to my error dismissed it without playing it. I have to say this game is great. Gonna buy it next time i have some microsoft points
so today i found out theres a track creator on demo, and i found out it was really free, you could really do anything you want. but it requires alot of skill to make explosives set on right time and whole lot of other things
I've just completed all the extreme difficulty tracks...
I only got bronze on all four tracks, but it was near impossible to even get to the finish. Lots of swearing involved in the process... but damn, it's a brilliant game!
EDIT: I'm number 96 in the world rankings at the moment. Not for long i'm sure... lol.
Jibber, compared to me you have some mad skills
I'm struggling with the Hard tracks, not even tackled the Extreme ones yet. I just watch the little progress bar at the top and see you zooming off while I'm going "huh?"
But I did publish my first level (Rooftop Runaway) this morning. The devs told me how to un-glue items so that helped a lot. It's more experimental than challenging, but I think it's got some cool stuff happening.
Just wait until you get the hang of it. It's not as hard as you think, and my skills are not as mad as you think either. It won't be long until you all beat my times...
The key is body lean and throttle input. Especially body lean is very important in this game. For example... sometimes if you have to climb steep objects, you tend to keep an upright position with the driver. However, this will take away weight from the rear tyre, or worse, make it lose contact with the ground. So at some points, you have to go against your initial reaction, and keep leaning back a little (not for too long tho, or you'll fall over) in order to keep the weight on the rear tyre and make it up that "hill". Momentum is very important aswell.
Once you discover things like this (and feel more comfortable with the bikes), it gets a lot easier. The extreme levels are still extremely hard tho.
I love (and hate) the player indicator in the levels. I have the same thing with KamkorPL (user on this forum). He's already beating all my times, and i keep looking at his indicator and thinking "damn you!" when it disappears in the distance... hehe!
Will check out your level tonight!
So far i've only seen levels that friends have released. I didn't really search for an option to browse through all levels made, but i haven't seen one.
This game is awesome, I liked the trial a lot and bought it on Jibber recommendation. Having lots of fun. And beating friends records will sure provide lots of replayability.
I had the same feeling when beating your records. I think the key to sucess in this game is using the surroundings to speed up properly. And having other rider info on the upper bar helps to find a faster route imo. And oh man, I hope you didn't post any crazy times while I was asleep.
It's always such a damn competition with you! LOL! I remember how we tried to get faster lap times in enthusia racing with the miata. Hahaha!
I agree, in trials it is much about using the objects to their full potential to get to maximum speed.
I didn't post crazy times by the way... just a little faster than yours...
I believe i reclaimed the first position on all the beginner and easy tracks. But it took me almost the whole evening (well, night), and they are half a second faster at best.
I thought you would start to slow down a little when you reach medium tracks. Then i've seen you beating my times already, and decided to leave it for later. I'll try to claim them back, but you know, the harder the tracks get, the harder it gets to keep the speed up. I simply didn't have the nerves anymore yesterday... at 3am in the morning... after getting all my records back on amateur and easy... you bastard!
It's when you reach the extreme tracks, when you really start asking yourself if the devs might enjoy torturing people.
I'm not fussed about beating you guys (I'm too old to be good at games these days!) but I would like to actually unlock all of the bikes and skill modes.
I had all bikes, except for one, when i've completed medium or hard difficulty, if i'm not mistaken. Completing the extreme tracks didn't unlock more. It was the third tournament that unlocked the last bike (the mini bike). I think it's the ammount of gold medals you have won that unlock the bikes.
I don't think i'll be getting crazy about fast times/gold on the harder tracks... they are just too hard for that. I'll certainly try to clear them with less penalties however.
