I'd take brake off mirrors over adjustable mirrors.
well, in many ways the more realistic the better but i'm not so sure on this occasion

we talking about screens here, with very limited angle of view comparing to real life and these less realistic mirrors are simply helping to avoid complete mayhem during close racing, get into any car behind the wheel and compare what you can see with the view you get on a screen, there is a huuuuuuge difference and because of that some tricks must be in use to make up for it

Agree.
Options, please !

+1 for break-off dangling by the wires mirrors its alot easyer for wheel users to use left/right look buttons for getting visual positional info of cars alongside, thank using even a perfectly set up side mirror.

I think the way the view is split between mirrors in LFS is perfectly fine as it is now.

SD.
Side mirrors for any view
Forgive me if this can be done as I am new but the major improvement I feel that is needed is to have side mirrors on any camera angle.

I like my view to be of the car bonnet, which if you have a G25 wheel or equivilant would be the most realistic view. The problem is that if you move the camera forward like this you lose the side mirrors.
I think you will find that all the details in the side mirrors are also replicated in the main rearview mirror. I think the side mirrors are just the left and right side of main mirror chopped into two and the field of view(?) changed slightly. So you could use the virtual mirror (Shift+M) and see what is already present in the side mirrors.

About your view:
Personally I don't feel that the most realistic view for a wheel controller is sitting on the bonnet. When you are in a real car your view is restricted by the pillars, the dashboard the door panels even the top of the bonnet (hood) obstructs the view. Some are happier to use "bonnet cam" and that's fine and I understand that view is nicer for some reasons. - Just that it is not the most "realistic" when talking about realism. Everyone has their preferences so that's fine. I tell you what's funny and that's seeing peeps with fully decked out cockpits in their living room and then the view on screen is the actual cockpit again. So they have two cockpits

If you are considering that the LCD screen is the actual car window and that's why your view is put to the bonnet, I think you should sit on the left or right hand side of the monitor or shift the view left or right depending what side the driver seat is on. IMO that would feel more real then sitting directly in the middle of the car bonnet.
Ahh you're right, thanks!

With the view, I was actually thinking of the open wheelers where of course you are in the middle and there is no windscreen but I see your point about the in car view.

I just can't stand having two wheels in front of me as you say.

Cheers!

move your moniter down/wheel up
Well.. still... as a sim, it should be replicated....

I mean, i'll gladly wait for things like weather if the do the slightly simpler stuff first...

(I mean, they already have code for the mirror.... whats copy and paste going to hurt with a few adjustments here and a fine-tunement there?)
I havent' read it all. It's too much for one day. But I have an suggestion. As I said, I don't know is it suggested or not.
I would like to see reflection of the car in side mirrors, so when I turn, I could compare car to line of the curve if I steer left or whatever, but it would be much easier to steer in some harder curves. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Holly bump xD

Quote from XCNuse :LFS taught me how to parallel park perfectly.. dunno what you're talking about.

When you are taking a driving test or otherwise you can't change your mirrors.

Really they don't need to be adjustable, the angles just need to change to be like more realistic mirrors so they don't overlap that much.

So when there is NO car in the mirror while parking, and you hit it, sight is perfect?

Unsure what driving test you are talking about, but for a (road)lisence in Norway, the adjustment of the mirrors/seat is a part of it(forget and probably fail).

You are probably talking about race cars, wich have a crew that adjust E V E R Y aspect of the car, they don't care if you see the sky or rearwheels in sidemirrors? :P

My point is, that for a driving to feal real, the stuff you accualy SEE while driving, must feal real

I agree fully, when close racing you cant turn heads to look at your side, you will probably hit the brakedevil infront of you.

Better mirrors will help keeping track of your surroundings, and sure, it also help in drifting&cruising, but so what, how can realism fail as an argument?
Bumping this with could you just move the view in the side mirrors more to the right and left so we get more of a side view to the car shouldn't be to hard to edit instead of the split middle mirror?

You bumped a thread just to say everything that others said 5 years ago, congratulations!
Quite an interesting thread; I'd like most of the stuff mentioned here too.

Break-off mirrors over adjustable mirrors, though!

Inb4 bumps in 2013, 2015 and 2016!

Still worth bumping and no I didn't see anyone suggesting to just move the mirror camera a bit. I saw more of want to see car in mirror and get real mirrors in this thread.
