It sure got easy with U
I hadn't driven since patch P, last time online before yesterday was in August i think. Just now i was in a race at BW GP and in the FXR did a lap of 1.08.79 and i wasn't even trying that hard. I was doing laps like clockwork. I've always been quite consistent thanks to years of GPL but with U I'm way way more consistent compared to pre U...20 laps without even coming close to losing the backend. It has become sooooo easy. Which is kinda....well..strange really....shocking....confusing...

Cheers,
Willem

Downforced cars brake better - extra downforce under braking due to car pitch = faster times.
LOL

better physics = faster times

(not a blanket statement, a relative one)
How far were you and are you from the WR times? But yeah, LFS is much easier now, much easier to stay on the track, and much easier to be consistent. Just like real life. Is that a bad thing?
Not sure why people seem to be posting that it has become easier ... maybe become easier to drive the cars on the limit but so what ? It's just because the flaws that made it more difficult before have been improved. Everything it still realitve, the aliens will still be quick the slow guys will still be slow.

I really, really, REALLY like the game since patch U came out. To be quite honest, I'd given up playing LFS because of the low lateral grip. And I'm not the only one. Most of the guys I race with had also gotten fed up. Now, after the patch, we can't get enough. It's nice to race and not have guys flying off the track every other lap, or spinning out of half the corners. An average person can actually sit down and play LFS and make it all the way around Blackwood now. It used to take hours and hours of practice before.

And, while it's easier to drive the cars, it's still just as difficult to drive them well. I think that the handling is now much more realistic, the game is much more fun, and it's more accessible to more people. It's a win-win scenario for everyone.
Having driven offline a bit i'm guessing low 1.07 would be possible for me, doubt i'll ever hit the 1.06 times on BW GP....i can't be arsed hot lapping all day. I had a small period of doing hotlaps right after S2 came out...mostly in the FXR and the UF1..and i tended to hover around 15th place in the hotlap charts regardless of track but i think with U i could do better cause i'm enjoying it way more.
I haven't said i thought U's car behaviour was wrong but just that it is *seriously* different, like cue-ball i to got fed up with the iceskating rear in P (which is the reason i haven't played LFS in 9 months) and turned to playing mainly netkar namie and RBR.....
I really do like U a lot.
That being said..as much as i like the current behaviour of course i do wonder if this is closer to reality than P. All that horse power and i can pick my nose going around the track...to me the complete opposite of P...

cheers,
Willem

I can't help it, the thread title sounds like the title of a cheesy love song

Haha, I was thinking exactly the same thing.

Funniest thing I've read all day... including the comments of an rFactor fanboy by the name of Mr Kerr. (Read my previous post, as well as the follow-up for a good laugh.)

Same here. I was to the point of not playing the game at all, and now it's exciting to the play again.

Awww! Put it back! It's not often I get to feel superior on this forum! Pweeeeze!

I live in the Yorkshire Dales, and the roads around me are pretty empty most of the year. I do do quite a bit of throwing my car around on the country lanes. It's as close to racing as I get, but because of the severity of the roads' undulations and meanderings, I do get pretty close to the limit a LOT of the time. Patch U feels pretty accurate to me, as close as sitting in my lovely, comfortable armchair can get as close to anything actually MOVING, anyway. It's a huge leap forward in the physical behaviour of the cars in LFS from where I sit (PC and car). It feels right.
i agree its more fun since the patch

before , while it was more of a challenge it just didnt feel 'right', now it is much better and makes alot of the turbo cars ect far more fun to race in

and close racing = the real fun so its
people say its easier... but the competitions is just as hard. i noticed people are a bit more aggressive ever since the physics patch.

the grip amount is just more realistic. so times have gotten substantially better.

sometimes i wish people would think a bit more before starting new threads
well sometimes, making a game easier does not always mean making it less realistic, maybe the devs were overexagerating the physics, that's all. I must agree that it's a tad bit easier to grip. Drifting wise, the tires lasts longer, and a bit more predictable also.

While the codename P expressed the former state of the tyre model, U represents the answer.
U will break down that wall that separates simualtion drivers from the road.
U will put people more in touch with their cars … and each other. But you’re probably asking: What does the name mean?
U sounds like “you”, which emphasizes this version is for everyone.
U can easily be remembered by people around the world, no matter what language they speak. No confusion. No need to abbreviate. Just U.
But now LFS needs you!
Because it´s really not about Vykos or hacksaws. It´s about U.
And with the new physics U will change everything!

sry ... had to be done
I wouldn't say Patch U made it "easier", I'd say more accurate. With that added accuracy, it feels more real. I can still get into a situation where the car snaps around. It's just more realistic the way it does it. It seems "easier" because you can push it harder and recovering from a power slide is more real. I've still managed to snap the FZR around to unrecoverable, but it was exactly what I expected in that situation. Rather than wondering why I'm snapping it around like in earlier versions.

The FZ50 road car is quite a blast. It drives exactly how I'd expect it to. Lots of powersliding in the corners when pushed too hard from the rear engine config. Why it has traction control, I don't know. No need. It's a blast without the TC turned on. I can see why the drifter's like this car as well. If I drifted, it would be my car of choice. I don't drift, but I sure do like powersliding the FZ50 around the track.
Wierd thing is I called up a mate of mine who'd given up on LFS. Told him "there's loads of grip, its the nuts!". When I spoke to him the next day he reckoned "it's exactly the same, I still can't drive it!"

It's not for evryone I guess

But how can someone have this opinion? Is there anyone else out there who thinks it's no different?
XRT and XRR suffered a lot with new patch, so I've been mostly frustrated lately.
Well about the so called easyness. It didn't became more easy, just more predictable. Driving on the edge lap after lap (without making mistakes) is still hard. That's exactly what I want from a simulation, good feeling for and feedback from the car, and still have a challenge to drive on the edge. It's a little bit like you saw on the last f1 race, Alonso and Schumacher driving lap after lap without gaining or loosing time to each other and that's also the way now with the new patch.
i love the new patch, the pack racing is what im after and its certainly got more of it. i definately found the cars easier to drive, and i think the game is much better for it!
Well I'm still slow as always (I play with a gamepad), but at least now I can take out any car on any track and complete laps, which means I can start to learn the lines, which means I get faster. It hasn't made it easier, its opened the door to lots of hours of hard practice.
I'll admit I miss the complete lack of grip on the FO8 as it taught me to drive carefully in LFS but the BF1 is an even better experience anyway so I'm not complaining.

It sure got easy with U
