Detecting when driver is looking left/right
I suspect the answer is no (as it's not in the InSim.txt manual) but I figured I'd ask anyway... Is there anyway to detect if the driver is pressing the look keys/buttons?

I have no idea but you could use the InSimSniffer to check if an InSim recieves a package when you look left / right. It's here on the forum somewhere.

See the "Text Messages and Key Presses" section here. If this is for that really cool alternative cockpit view app you were making some time ago it will probably not do as there is no "key released" packet sent.
Yep, been thinking about improving that camera program. I think I'll ask the devs if it'd be a problem adding the "look" button status to the outgauge packet as it already indicates so many other car functions already, or else possibly to add a flag to the IS_CPP camera control packet that allows it to control camera angles and still allow looking left and right (you can already look backwards even with the camera overridden.)
What if you make an alternative method?

Pressing your own defined hotkey to look in a direction sets the camera to look in said direction, pressing it again returns to center. Less intuitive than the current, press-and-hold - yet not terribly so.
Problem solved, I found pygame which can read the joystick while LFS is running.
glad to see you're working on this =D ^_^ this will be so epic!

Though I would imagine that you would then have to look at the predefined config?
