setup extensions and unzipping files?
Hi gang, I have a question that might seem silly, but not being a computer wiz, I find myself stuck when trying to use any setups that I download.
What is happening is, when I download a setup I am getting a file extension that is .set and windows does not know how to open it. Am I suppose to download a program to unzip these files or are there other setup files that work with windows that I should be downloading?
Move the .set file to \data\setups in the folder you have installed LFS to.
I'm sure that another way to save the hassle of opening the directory all the time, is to associate the files to LFS itself. When opening the file, it automatically copies the file to the appropriate folder. I think skins do not work with this feature. I have tested layout (.lyt) and setup (.set) files to say the least.

Quote from Scawen :One interesting improvement is that file associations now work. That means if you set SPR and MPR files to be opened with LFS, then you can run any MPR or SPR (replays) from any location (including a website) just by double clicking it. You can also associate SET and LYT files with LFS and then double clicking any setup or layout will copy it to the relevant folder.

How to set up file associations (Windows XP example) :

> Right click an SPR file
> Select "Properties"
> Click the "Change..." button beside "Opens with:"
> Browse for and select LFS.exe in your main LFS folder
> Do the same again with MPR, SET and LYT

Then you can run any replay just by double clicking it.

It was in the test patch then but it's now in the main LFS releases.
Thank you guys for all your help but I am still having trouble understanding how this works. When I open up the lfs folder I find 3 applications. LFS, LFS S2 ALPHA Z1, and LFS RESTART. There are also the file folders Data and Docs along with a number of Text Documents. I cant seem to find LFS.EXE
I am running Vista 64 bit. After I get to "opens with" am I suppose to just start up LFS? When I tried this the setup was not there. Should I open the set in the Data setups folder?
Sorry for my confusion, but apparently I need an idiot proof method to solve this, I just don't want to screw up the LFS folder by adding something to the wrong place. Thanks for your patience,
Billy.
LFS "application" = LFS.exe

Holy god, M$ Windows makes people stupid.
Success, She is finally working! Thanks again for all your help
Looking forward to competing for the checkered flag! See you all in turn 1.

"Are u shur u want 2 paste dat der?"

*yes*

"Are u absholootlee shur abut dat?"

*YES!*

"okeyy. Nuh need teh showt"

So.. overly secure..
lol, too true, one thing about it though is, now that it is set up to allow me to download and use these sets I've got no excuse for not turning out some kickass laps. If I still cant break 1:46 with a 1:42 setup then I have got to attribute my losses to "owner/operator".
Ahh well, win or lose, stick to the booze
