Hi, I've made my skin for destruction derby, but I want to make dents, scratches, rust. Any tips? I use photoshop cs4.

you can search some textures at http://www.cgtextures.com/
you may find scratched and dirty surfaces there

choose metal and than painted in the menu. you will find what you want there

There's a lot of different ways to go about this.

For large dents (say, in a door panel or such) I'd try to find pictures of white cars with dents and paste those dents onto a new layer, playing with the blending modes (multiply, dodge, burn, etc) and see how that works out. Obviously will need a little touching up, but that could be one method.

Sorry for bump, but I just found a very nice technique for damage!

Instead of a white car, take a sheet of plain paper, crumple and dent it slightly,scan it into your pc, copy a good "dent" in the paper, move it over to a new layer on your skin, and mess around with the "multiply" setting on the "layers" tab
