Ingame diff settings
Hey guys.

I have S2 and wanted to know why the Clutch pack LSD on the highest settings, locks more then the actual locked diff option.

Is this an ingame bug? Or does the coder not know what a locked diff does?
(stays completely locked the entire time giving complete drive to both wheels at the same time, all the time, no matter if ur on or off the gass :P )

Its just annoying me, the locked diff setting feels like it opens up a tad during corners, where as the clutch pack (everything on max) seems to stay pretty locked through corners, hard on the gas.

Yes I did a search and found nothing, only people arguing about how each diff works. I just need a simple answer, and if LFS will ever code a proper locked diff option
Locked diff always feels pretty locked to me. Evidence? Replays?

maybe not evidence, but the crazy amount of locked front + rear diff FXR setups. Doesn't seem to hinder turn in as much as i'd expect. Or kill the tyres like a real locker does either. *shrug* just a thought
Locked diff is pretty much a no-brainer to code

Locked diff in itself works correctly, no doubt. It's just the things around it that might be wrong.
Besides the new physics in the next patch are probably going to make using locked diff more realistic. Because I think a lot of the problem is that the inside wheel loses load and that allows it to easily slide around corners. Which is exactly what the new tyre physics are trying to fix.
Do you think that might, just might, be down to the incomplete tyre model, rather than a mistake in the differential programming? I'm no expert, but making the diff behave as a locked diff is a smidgen easier than making the tyres behave like tyres. For starters, no human being fully understands tyres.

Fair comment, it has been discussed before that that is the crux of the issue. Perhaps that is why the OP thinks it doesn't feel right. It would be almost impossible to tell, unless you get a speed readout of the individual wheels anyway.
Which I think you can get from the RAF files
I've used locked diff and max locking LSD diffs extensively in LFS and can only comment the opposite of the effects you feel max locking LSD definately has more give than locked enabling better turn in and drive down than pure locked diff. These days though I go for much lower locking LSD and once we get the new tyre physics I doubt I'll ever use a locked diff again I also firmly believe any inconsistencies between LFS diffs and real life equivelants comes down to the current tyre physics.

If you are refering to power down being planted more with LSD than locked then that is right, a properly set up clutch pack diff shits all over a locked diff when a car is not power limited.

Talk about setups there

I wasnt asking how to set my car up. I needed to know if anyone else thought the locked diff didnt seem 'locked'

The LSD with everything on full (80%/80%, with full preload) Feels tighter then the locked diff and it shouldnt be this way.

oh well, i appreciate the comments.
What do yo mean by "tighter"?

A fully locked diff can cause over-steer on power. Whereas an open diff will resist over-steer on power because all of the wheel spin will go to the inner tire that is less loaded. So the outside tire maintains more grip on power than with a locked diff.

Well, preload at full makes it a locked diff basically - I doubt you'll ever get that torque difference between the two wheels to overcome that preload...
