Only if you nanny them and never let them outside, my cat is about 5 and a half years old and has never had any problem taking a dump outside. We don't own a litter tray and haven't for the past 5 years.
I prefer cats myself -dogs behave too much like needy babies, they're noisy, they smell and they drool like builders watching a porno.
not getting into cats are better than dogs that's just daft.
I like cats and dogs, I just prefer to have a dog, nice long walks keeps you fit.
but I will say one thing if I ignored my dog I'd probably end up dead.
i have a dog, but both animals are curious little effers. have you ever put sticky tape on a cat? they have no clue what it is. if you put the tape on their back, they walk as if they are crawling under something.
the fun really happens when you put in on their sides.
Dog is loyal to you till death (no matter how you treat them basically), cats are loyal(in a way i guess?) to whoever gives them better food(<just an example)...that's what i've learned from MY experience. Dog needs a lot of attention and taking care of, if you are up to that, go ahead keep a dog, but if not, take a cat. Cats are cute, but.... that's about all. You just put a sandbox on corner of room and fill up their plates few times a day, that's all they need basically, you can't go on a walk with a cat or go outside and play on a field with him or do such an activities...from my view, cat is a cosmetical friend but dog is at least one level higher. I don't wan't to say that i don't like cats, i do like those cute furballs, but if i had to choose between dog and cat, then i can't see a question here...dog is humans best friend they say, it's true.
It very much depends on the cat though, I am definitely best friends with one of my cats. We have two, and the smaller one, Tigger, has always been very kittenish and babyish - he's never really grown up and I am very much his daddy (well, his mummy really - he'll even suckle my clothes if I lie down). He follows me round the house and sits with me wherever I happen to be, and will always come running over for a cuddle if I call him.
The other, Marcel, he's a lot more indemendent and much more of a 'traditional' cat.
