Question - Karting race in Autocross Layout
Hi,

Im planning to organise a Karting league (with the MRT5) on tracks edited on the autocross arena.

Tonight I did my first test with about 10 drivers and everything went fine. But I have a few questions about a couple of minor problems.

1) Is there a way to have a qualifying session?

2) During the race, I dont know in wich position I am, I dont know the standing, I dont know the gap between me and my competitors. Is there a way to have those informations during the race?

3) When a tire is bumped, it disapears and come back to its original position when the track is free. Is there a way to change how far drivers have to be from the tire so it can get back? My problem is that, at mid-race, drivers are everywhere on the track and the tire never have a clean track to come back.

4) Is there a way to "lock" a layout so nobody can save it and practice on it?

If the answer is "no" to every questions, I suppose those would be very good suggestions for a future patch.

Thanks!

Le Kid
1. I think I explained it in a different thread, I will look for it.
2. You can make checkpoints to know the gap.
3. Nope there is no way to do that.
4. No
1) What you have explained in a different thread is probably that I have to make a practice session and note the times manually. Is it the only solution? If yes, is there an "easy" way to place drivers manually on the starting grid?

2) What I mean is that, usually (on a "normal track") I can see the standing live in the top-right of the screen during the race. I also have the gap betweel the front guys and the guys behind me and my current position. But on a layout, I have nothing. All I have is the final result when the race is over. I currently have 1 checkpoint, maybe I have to make 3? I will test that tonight.

3 and 4) Thanks.

Le Kid
1. No at least I dont know any different way.
2. I think you should make 3 checkpoints.
I wonder why the built in qualifying system isn't working?

1) That's what I tough. Thanks.
2) I have tried with 3 checkpoints and it still doesnt work.

I know there already is a Karting league, I took a look at it. But I wanted to make a league in my country (Canada). Also, my idea is to have a new custom track on each event so nobody know the track and nobody can practice before the event.

I made a test last thursday and everybody enjoyed it, especially the fact that nobody needs to make a lot of practice to be competitive.

The only thing that bugs people is that they dont know everyone's best lap during practice. Even worst: they dont know in wich position they are during the race and the gap with the front and back guys. But, in a real karting event, its the same thing isnt it?

No. A rental kart yes but my race kart has an onboard computer, realtime telemetry on the engine, it gives me split times, revs (to adjust gearing in setup), engine hours, and so on. I also have a pit car radio to discuss race position and who is a backmarker, who i'm chasing, what their laptimes are etc.

Then when I get the car back into the pits I download the telemetry onto the laptop and analyse g-forces, revs over time, lap comparisons etc.

This is pretty much standard at national level racing, everything but the laptop is standard in club level racing.

See for yourself : http://www.alfano.be/
Do you race in a national series Becky?

@Le Kid - Most people have dataloggers (usually an alfano) which gives very detailed info on the kart to the driver. Unless the driver has a radio system they cannot tell the distance between them and people in front/behind (they can tell who is a backmarker because the backmarker will get blue flagged)
I have done, and I want to race a national series next year but i'm struggling with funds at the moment. My job hasn't proven reliable enough to fund racing so i've been toying with the idea of getting a commercial management company in. The first firm I contacted was a PR outfit and although they did mention me to Top Gear ... it didn't really help, and I wont be racing The Stig any time soon! lol...

I've never been very good at raising the money, I suppose that's why I always punch over my budget - because my budget is so lousy that nobody could possibly drive that badly !

You are right. I remember everbody (except me) had an Alphano when I was racing karts.

Anyway, it doesnt help me with my "problem" with my LFS-Karting concept...
You have the answer, your just applying it wrong. The solution lies in checkpoints.

I've not looked at this issue before in LFS so I do not know the correct process to setup the checkpoint system, I would imagine it is a case of defining a boundary and anything inside the boundary registers at the checkpoint - it's therefore important not to put it somewhere cars might leave the circuit at.
Becky Rose, the checkpoint system works, the problem is not there.

When I am racing, I have my 1st split time, my 2nd split time, my 3rd split time and my total time when I cross the start/finish line.

What I dont have is the standing and the gap with the front and back guys during the race. I only have it at the end of the race.
