Sending and receiving of set-ups.
Sorry if this has been mentioned before, I did to a quick search and found nothing.

It would be nice to have the ability to be able to send and receive setups while in the occnection screen, instead of having to start a race, send setup, pit (to change to new setup), rejoin and restart race.

Just add another button on the Kick/Ban line next to the player's name on the connection screen.

I never quite understood why you had to actually be in a race to recieve a setup either. would be nice if you could send or recieve one at any point while connected to a server
I hadn't noticed that you couldn't do this but the fact it isn't there suggests to me it's almost certainly a data handling issue, believe it or not a change like that might actually be several months of reworking the data flow and possibly the order data is sent during the network connectivity.

When you are in a car your player instance & connection is bound to the vehicle and it's setup, on the race prep screen this might not have happened yet in the way LFS handles connectivity as you'll basically be in spectator mode, because of this you aren't bound to a vehicle so it doesn't know what setup to send - even though you have some local preferences of what setup you are intending to use.

When you send a setup to another player I doubt very much LFS sends it at all, it's already sent and used to calculate your physics. When you send the setup you are being granted permission to extract that data.

The setup is most likely sent when you get into the car, it's logical to do it this way from the way LFS works in terms of shift-s and session starting etc.

That's my guess anyway, I think implementing such a change - albiet apparently quite minor - would probably be around 3 months of reworking the connectivity code.

and how is LFS going to know which car you want to send a setup for?
if your like me you could have 20-30 setups per car... multiply that by the number of cars in the game and you have a bloody long list to look through to find the right setup to send...
the way it is atm is the best i think.

Even if you are spectating or in the race setup area, you have a car selected and a setup. That is the one that will be sent. You don't have to be on the track to recieve a set. You can be in spectate I believe. Or, at least if on track, you can recieve a setup for a different car.
You can recive a setup if you are spectating. You can't send one though, because you're not using one and LFS sends THE ONE you are using.

A common misconception, sort of... Too many people ask for the setup of the driver doing the mega lap times, and as soon as they see somebody do a fast time they want that persons setup too, but they themselves would be faster if they used a more driveable setup.

A good setup is worth .5, maybe a whole second on a fast track. A driveable setup that suites your style is worth one less 20 second crash. Which earns you more time?

I actually think a lot of the more advanced setup options should be removed from most of the cars, then people could setup their own to their own style.

tbh most of the pace of an experienced driver is because of their experience not their setup. I dont suddenly do mega laps because i'm using a league winning setup. If anything, i'm more likely to go off the road.
nothing wrong in asking for a setup after seeing it in use but dont expect it to turn you into a driving god(dess), if i do ask for a set up i always save 1 or ideally more races featuring the driver and setup so i can study them offline, a lot of the really fast drivers/ setups use / need a very specialised driving style to work

what p1ss3s me off is the setup collectors who hassel the top drivers in each race plus anyone who joins and is faster than them.

due to their habit of driving 27 million setups in quick succession, this later group includes almost everyone, hell ive even seen my 6 year old lad get asked for his uf1 setup just because he made it round the 1st bend at blackwood. if they bothered to watch they would see he never went above 30 mph but all they see is that he is in front of them because he didnt crash and must have a killer setup.
