What is the unsprung mass of RAC?
I have been reading up on calculating spring frequencies, checking out Bob Smith and Colcobs stuff etc.... anyhow, one of the required variables is the unspring mass of the car.
This info is available for the older cars by looking inside some of the setup calculating spreadsheets out there but where can I find details for the Raceabout ?
(I've done some searching through the available docs and the forum archives and not been able to find this info. Apologies if it's there and I've missed it.)

cheers

63.77288818kg according to some values I was given by colcob - distributed evenly.

where did this value originate ? please, colcob are you there?, anyone ?

what about other cars ?

btw, thanks axus

It is in RAF data. Read the RAF file spec.

thanks - at last - thats what i wanted to know
You have to say my name three times you know, for faster service.

I last did a collection of car data straight after S2 alpha release so it might be worth you checking again, although I dont think the RAC has changed mass.

The RAF file output gives you total mass (inc driver and fuel) and also sprung mass (strangely including driver but if IIRC not fuel) so I had to do some raf outputs with known volumes of fuel, then take sprung mass and fuel mass away to get unsprung mass.

Again, I cant remember how we worked it out, but it does seem that unsprung masses are currently evenly distributed front to back.

Wouldn't it be easier just to subtract the sprung mass from the total mass in the RAF file? The fuel load should cancel itself out then.
Some data has changed for most of the cars since this latest patch... and the RAC has lower COG if that affects whatever you're doing here

hehe after getting the unsprung mass info (which I double checked in the file with a hex editor), I then went through all the calculations, and hacked the existing analyser to see graphs of the springs and dampers.
I used this along with the advice in the setup manual to discover that the optimum damper settings are identical to the ones i have already arrived at through driving and tweaking using feel and guesswork. LOL
Not sure if thats a waste of time or a good sign
anyhow thanks to Axus, Colcob and Bob Smith
I would like to try and get the suspension analyzer updated for a couple of cars I use, can someone give me the (simple) steps I need to follow to get the required info, i.e. like the OP ask about unsprung mass?.

Dan,

Knock yourself out. Still under development though, so its a little unpolished and buggy. Programming is by Monkster, physics stuff is by me.
Hmmm........looks a bit techy for me........

Dan,

Are you ever satisfied? Gee... you're like a woman.

The only reason it looks rather complicated is because little has gone into user-firendlyness so far. Its really a question of putting the thing(s) you want on the X axis and the thing(s) you want on the Y axis and asking it to plot the curve. Its really that simple and it provides some very handy extended output - no slip angles as yet though, but most of the stuff you'll be interested in is already there.
hehehe, right, well, ok then, can anyone tell me the unsprung mass of the FZ50

I can't fathom that program out, I think I overdosed on stupid pills this morning illepall

Dan,

The proggy doesn't show it yet, but its on that page - lower down. http://monkster.hopto.org/cgi- ... pl?TractionBudget#Basics

We will probably add those parameters in at a later stage in the programme.
