New Formula One tyre supplier from 2011
Quote from Formula1.com :Formula One racing is set to use a new tyre supplier from 2011 after Bridgestone announced on Monday that they will not be renewing their current contract when it expires at the end of 2010.

Bridgestone have been participating in the sport since 1997, winning 156 Grands Prix, 10 drivers' and 10 constructors' titles. They became the official sole supplier to the championship in 2008.

The decision to leave was taken by Bridgestone’s board of directors, based on the Japanese company's 'need to redirect its resources towards the further intensive development of innovative technologies and strategic products’. Hiroshi Yasukawa, director of Bridgestone Motorsport, described the news as a ‘great disappointment’.

“Bridgestone's relationship with the FIA Formula One World Championship stretches beyond being a tyre supplier,” he said in a statement accompanying the announcement.

“Formula One has been of strategic importance to Bridgestone in developing its technologies, raising the company's brand awareness and providing its strategic business units around the globe with promotional and marketing tools that are intrinsically linked to our company's core products.

“It was a great honour for Bridgestone to be awarded the 2008-2010 contract as Official Tyre Supplier by the Federation International de L'Automobile (FIA) to the pinnacle of single-seater racing and we would like to thank them for their continued support and for entrusting us with this privileged role which has seen us working at the heart of the Formula One community.

“Our sincere appreciation is also extended to Mr Bernie Ecclestone and Formula One Management, the Formula One teams with whom it has been an honour to have worked alongside, and the many Formula One fans who have followed our activities over the past 13 years. I would also like to thank the staff of the Bridgestone Motorsport team for their professionalism, dedication and hard work, and for their passion for excellence.”

Bridgestone reiterated that they continue to be wholly committed to the provision of safe tyres of the highest quality to the FIA Formula One World Championship in 2010 and to the running of their tyre servicing operation at the highest level.

Hmm, what could it be?
Michelin back in? meh
Now that this is the reason for leaving but isn't this situation (being a single supplier with the current compound rules) a bit awkward from a PR point of view. Basically they are forced to make bad tyres on purpose. Then teams and drivers complain about the problems with the tyres.

I don't care who takes over. Does anyone actually care what logo is on the side of the tyres? Really?!

But it would be nice if the new people correct the massive feck up that Bridgestone are doing with the tyre sizes for next year. WE WANT A WIDER REAR TYRE, NOT A NARROWER FRONT. Bridgestone are given the ideal opportunity to increase the tyre:aero grip ratio in favour of the tyre, thus improving the racing. But instead they chose the cheap option because they already have a mould.

It really annoys me that this monumental failure was allowed to occur.

Evostar, Cromo, Torro?
Pirelli / GoodYear would be my choice, why not even both for some competition..

Pirelli will be good, I just like how Italian it sounds Also remind me of the old days when small budget teams run Pirellis against big budget team with Goodyears.
Toyotires?

I'm glad to see this one, maybe new tyre manufacturers war in F-1?
BF Goodrich

lol why don't you say Hanhook!!!
Yokohama / ADVAN of course.
[Random tyre brand comment]..

Honestly I don't think it matters With the current tyre restrictions, bad things are bound to happen.
wait for it...

Michelin!
Firestone

Why? Because they are owned by the same company

If FIA wanted that, it would have happened already or the previous war would have never ended in the first place.
Cromo_plain?
As long as it remains a single supplier, I'm content.

I agree that its more likely the customer dictated the quality (or lack) of the tire, rather than incompetence from Bridgestone.
if they have the facilities i wouldnt be suprised to see cooper tyres put in a bid for the contract as to me they seem to be trying to get more invilved in motorsport but i may off the mark
TORRO should supply F1. TORRO tires in LFS give drivers a second a lap because they are made of pure win.
Yokohama/Advan would be cool but going by what all of the other Japanese companies in the automotive sector are doing, I highly doubt it. There are some (Japanese) whispers going around ATM about interest so it's still a possibility.
Kumho, I dunno. Also some rumors but I think they are too focused on GT but Kumho would be cool too. I can't remember which but they're also involved in an open wheel series.
Pirelli isn't interested.
Goodyear isn't interested.
Michelin isn't interested.
Hankook... also probably focused on GT and Formula Drift... have you seen Papadakis' S2000, Nishida's R35 and Grunewald's Camaro???
Dunlop? Maybe but I'm not too sure. It's the sole supplier for V8 Supercars in Australia so maybe also an emphasis on GT.
BFG no idea.
Let'em roll on their rims until their ears bleed I say!

greetz

der butz (who is generally uninterested in F1 and just wants to spam)

lol butz

hmm
Michelin, after they are pissed off A1GP not paying for their tyres
BF Goodwrich is the (Nürburgring Nordschleife) Endurance Championship sponsor and I don't think they are interested enough in F1 plus they are a brand of Michelin
Goodyear? - no idea
Dunlop, DTM tyre supplierer... as DTM is the station for retired Formula 1b Stars + Mika, maybe that would be a step for them... however they belong do Goodyear
Avon? They are quiet good represented in lower formula classes, why not...
Firestone won't be involved with this because they are a brand of Bridgestone nowadays. However, if they would, we might get the redwalls, wich would meen that it is better to see what tyre it is
Yokohama? FIA WTCC... maybe a sigle supplier for all FIA World Championships?
Continental? - I've never seen them in motorsports
Khumo?, Hankook?, Vredestein?

I think it can be everyone
