Sup sup...
id like to see the auto gear box have like 1st 2nd D OD N R....u know like a real car would have...instead of 1 2 3 4 5 like a manual has...i think that would be pretty neat to have.....plus would be more realistic...but its currently fine like it is...just a suggestion..lol.....
Yeah, if I remember correctly, NFS Hot Pursuit (IV) had something similar. For example, manual gearbos with BMW Z3 gave you 6 gears, wit automatic gearbox you had only 4.
The auto gearbox is NOT an auto as you think of it. It is simply LFS doing the gear changes for you instead of you doing them.
Normal road slush boxes would be terrible to use in racing. You loose power and pickup compared to stick. If they were added they might be used once by people until they realise how stupid road auto boxes are on the track and then would never be used again. I have a 1.1ltr manual Mini and a 2.5ltr auto Subaru Legacy. Guess which puts down the power the best?
I always laugh at the boy racers here in NZ. They all drive highly tuned WRX's, Skylines and big block holdens but have a road auto tranny in them. But then all their tiny brains can cope with is burnouts so I guess it makes sense.
Well, I hope you are talking about the cars of "street racers" Most actual drag cars have automatic transmissions. I'm not talking about "street racing." I mean the actual race cars.
Top Fuel cars have a gear. And a slip clutch mind you.
(Pretty sure this is correct)
Also, either autoshifting should be removed (!) or the road cars should have real autos if you want auto. No one said they are good for racing, or anything like this. Just for the sake of simulating road cars, this should be the palette to choose from.
Well, at least in NA all the road cars save for the LXs would be sold with autos. Porsches have tiptronics you know, so the FZ50 for sure would even be sold in Europe with such.
I even heard people by Ferraris and such with lazy-boxes. Why why why you weird odd people. Learn to change gear in a Ferrari properly, and don't accept silly gearboxes just because you'll be 0.2 seconds faster to work. Use a manual and be 100 times happier.
The auto shift and auto clutch is FINE. If people want to drive not knowing when the gears will change then let them, it does make them slower.
It is impossible to balance a car through a corner properly if the auto gear change decides its time to change up mid corner. The auto change will not hold off and just rev higher a little longer etc.
Real race drivers use manual for a reason. And dont start on about the partial auto gears used in F1 cars etc because the gear boxes in those cars cost more than high end sports cars just for the gearbox, they are not the same.
Yeah, what is the point of having an automatic transmission ferrari? I was watching this show on MTV, and this blonde actress had an AUTO Murcialago.
Back to the thing about the drag cars, I didn't mean a pro-stock. I meant a super-street, or super-stock.
Last questions first: they're slushboxes just like every other automatic in a road going car (with the VERY rare exception I'm sure). Just with greater versatility and a "manual mode". People seem to be misreading what I am saying, so let me make it all clear:
A) I dislike automatics like most auto enthusiasts, I fully comprehend the downfalls and how both transmissions work; it's not rocket science!
B) I understand the auto shifting in LFS ATM is not MEANT to be a true Auto trans
C) I don't think there should be the AID of auto shifting, I think it should be replaced with the OPTION of a real auto transmissions in the appropriate cars only, and that just my opinon, which I am certain will never happen and many people disagree with. I'm just living up to my purist roots that's all.
The road cars except I assume the LXs would be sold in many places in the world (I suspect even in Europe, but the Europeans would know better I guess) with auto transmissions - AS AN OPTION, yes, of course an auto trans is pretty much always optional on cars that CAN have it.
Thought as much. Only one car I know of does it the correct way with a real clutch and gears and that is a Maserati that top gear reviewed. They said it worked well on the track but not IRL usage.
Manual, unless you have VERY SERIOUS mony to spend on very fancy kit and electronics is best.
I can say that in the UK most people learn to drive stick. There are two tests one that allows you to drive stick and manual and one for auto only. Because there are so few autos, and the fact they are just shite anyway, means people normal take the stick test.
There are also very few autos for sale as it is assumed people drive stick.
While in NZ its very different, you have to hunt to find a car with stick shift here, Auto is king. You can also drive any car at 15 without a legal requirement to have insurance. But they make up for it because they do not put crash barriers on roads with 100 foot drops at the road edge. Call it natural selection
The fastest DB9 (Is it the Vanquish? I always mix these tangs ) has a manual connected to tiptronic. The normal DB9 has an auto and connected to tiptornic. Jeremy (Clarkson, who else :>) says the normal one is very good. The first one throws you forward when changing gears and then back again.
Most of the time I simply cannot be bothered to change. In real life, though, I've never driven an automatic that I would've liked - except for the Audi A6 3.0tdi, which was so boring to drive that even a good manual transmission could've given any pleasure or satisfaction.
lol this has to be one of the funnyest things i have read on these forums car talk about someone that has never been in a real drag car befor.
REAL drag car's use auto most of the time the only real high powered drag cars that use manuals are modded rotary's due to the fact they have to rev high and spool up befor the launch and i dont think they make good enough parts or box's to suit the motors as a auto
sure the auto's in drag cars are manual shift and only have 2 or 3 gears they are still a auto box with torque converters and such
now im not 100% sure of a Top fuel rail or the other extream drag cars but im 90% sure the box is a auto
