I dunno if the WR packs are still being made since Phlos isn't around so much, but he was basicly updating the WR pack by using the same thing his website done and sending it to specific people of his liking.

I don't like it tbh, not because of the fact people get my sets (well not fully) but more to the fact that more 'elitist' people will refrain from uploading their hotlap because someone will get their setup, which sorta ruins the whole point of uploading hotlaps..

The WR pack i refered too was given to me by a friend , so i cannot comment on its origins , however i did aquire a setup pack about 8 months ago from a setup type site that was not Phlos ... 99% sure the other didn't come form the phlos site either ...



For the record , I firmly belive that if you set a WR that your set should NOT be published to the public ( partial or otherwise )

As I already said, all setup data is stored in RAF file and there are public tools that extract setups. Not only for LFS, RAF is widely used format.

If you want to do a good WR you don't need to set up the car to adapt you, you have to set up to optimize handling, and YOU have to adapt to situations or never will do a good time.

I don't see extracting setup info from a .spr file as stealing. As the information in de .spr file is given to you. What you read out of it, is up to you.
I don't understand the discussion about WR setup info in the first place, if you don't want to show it to others, than don't upload the .spr

tbh they have a point about it being stolen, James you wouldn't like giving your kart setup to everyone in the field would you? But its all ruined by the fact LFSW gives you 70% of the info you need anyway.

It's not about the knowledge, it's about trying out new things, spending the time testing things to see how they work, so really it's time and effort that's being extracted, not so much knowledge.

There is a reason why don't real racers share their telemetry data with others. Making good setups requires some knowledge, logic, time and hard work too. It doesn't fair, when someone makes a set, drives a WR (even if set has little to do with it), and than X just watches the telemetry data, and gets most of the info in 10 secs, which sometimes took hours for the owner.
It's basically like cheating. You don't know the answer/solution, so you copy.
I don't upload hotlaps any more, and the reason is I don't really want to share some setups and ideas with the competition (mostly hungarian scene). Theres public level racing, and theres serious league racing, where you really want to keep all advantage you have. Thats what makes you faster than others.

The reason why I'm interested in those WR setup's is, because I do spent many hours creating setups. But at some point I don't know what to change anymore to get it better. And a testlap in the WR car shows that it can be better, I just can't figure out why.

And I agree fully with the devs, if you don't want others to learn from your hotlap, then don't upload it.
