I wish people would stop saying 'why not?' around here. Why not what?
So, name a 1.3 car engine that puts out anywhere near 140bhp?
Your question was: "A 1.3 car engine with 140bhp??"

It's not like something like that doesn't exist, so i think "why not?" is a valid question.

People have given examples above, do they not count? What do you want to hear?

I think we'd have to ask the Devs what engine they had in mind when modelling the LX4, myself thinks the Hayabusa engine is what fits best.

btw, what engine could the LX6 have? Never heard of an inline-6 being that small, afaik the IS200s 1G with its 2 liters is one of the smallest.
I skipped a bit of this thread, but I will say this. Do not waste your money on that chassis.

Just save up and buy a second hand Cat7. After you buy the parts you need to finish that replica you'll be looking at the thick end of 10k and that is before you try and make it road legal.
Just to add to the whole "1.3l engine" thing.

Mazda RX8 has a 1.3l engine and is pulling out 228bhp.
Whilst the swept capacity might be 1.3l, it's a Wankel and isn't directly comparible. But nice try at being smart.

Fail!

The RX8 is a Wankel engine. It doesn't have any pistons at all.

Edit: Woops, didn't see page 2
Its a 1.3. It has the same numbers

But yeah, Fail. Checked the net and it is a wanky.

Its funny because my friend was arguing with another guy couple days ago, about what engine the RX8 has. He said the standart is atleast a 2.8l....

I knew its a 1.3l 'cos I remember the review on Top Gear about it. But completely forgot that it is a Wankel.

Yes i have read all the examples so far & they are either bike engines, race thoroughbred (extremely rare & expensive) or turbo's, rotary does not count as the stats say in line 4.

I am left wondering where the devs plucked these figures from.

An example of the type of engines you might find in a Caterham style kit car would be Zetec, 4a-ge, K-series all commonly available engines in europe. Toyota did do a 1.4vvt which might come close but i have yet to see a kit car with of those in it.
I found this:

Caterham CSR260=118HP per litre
Whilst there aren't many production road engines of 1.3l producting 140hp - for the simple reason that people who buy 1.3 litre engines want economy and a bit of torque rather than power - it isn't hard nor especially expensive to get one up to over 100bhp per litre. If you are lucky there is a good chance you'd be able to do it without actually having to buy new parts - just alter the cam timing, skim the cylinder head a bit, and remap the ECU (although I concede that a better intake and exhaust system, along with a decent aftermarket ECU would yeild better results - and you'd do this anyway on a kitcar.
For the past ~10 years my dad's been building a lotus seven type car.

It got to a state, where it was practically done, then he ended up having other things to do.

A new development on this; the seats he bought when he started (which are fitted) will no longer pass the SVA test.
Thats quite a sad story, have you ever just taken it to an old airfield/waste ground & had a blast?
Damn SVA test is what makes Kit cars so darn expensive. (if you need a road legal one)
