No.
I dont drive auto transmission cars in real life (and never will), and i dont agree on simulating these crappy things. (autoclutch is a different thing)
I think it would be cool to have real automatic transmissions simulated, I wouldn't use them, but I think as a physics demonstration it would be pretty cool.

Yes, I realize that automatic shifting is in there as a driver aid right now, but it's very unrealistic, the only cars I can think of that shift like that are a few Ferraris and Maseratis with the F1 transmission, and SMG equipped BMWs.

Ball-Bearing-Turbo is correct, while enthusiasts would obviously buy the car in manual transmission form, all of the street cars in LFS save the LX4 and LX6 would be available with an auto.

All this being said, I'm guessing it would be costly and time consuming to develop a real Auto trasmission, and I doubt it will ever make it in the game.
Aren't top fuel dragsters manually controlled Auto-boxes, often with only two gears, one for starting and one for the main run?

The cars I looked at at Santa Pod had this huge triggered lever, and apparently they pull that when the light comes on on the dash (at about 100mph), and it puts them in top gear. Timing of the shift is critial, too early and the car bogs down (relatively), too late and your losing tractive effort potential.

This is valid of american cars, not european cars.
Here in Europe the 99% of the cars is (luckily) with manual transmission, and u cant find a city car with auto ones. Only some bmw or mercedes or other cars from that high class use auto transmission as optional only.

Almost all cars in Europe can be bought with auto from new, even the original Mini had auto options.

They ARE there to be had, its just that people realise they are shite so don't have them That is why there are not many around.

Autos certainly aren't avaliable in 'almost all' European cars, maybe 50% and people hardly ever buy them because we can be bothered to change gear. I personally hate driving autos (and I've only driven 2 )

As for these clever shift autos in disguise do any of the mainstream sportscar producers offer true sequential boxes? Certainly would fly with true sequential race boxes, even bike sourced boxes a la Radical.

Lets see, just checked various UK car maker sites.

Citroen - Entire range apart from C1 has auto option
Ford - Entire range apart from Ka has auto option
Peugeot - 90% of range has Auto option
BWM - Auto always an option
Vaxhall site was dead so could not check.

What other sites should I check?

Auto's have always been available, its just people don't want them.
