Adjustable handbrake force
Hey guys I don't know if anyone else has suggested this before, but I think it would be a really good feature in LFS. It's in RFactor I know, don't know about any other games specifically...

Most of the time I use mouse & kb so I generally put the maximum braking pressure pretty low so it doesn't lock up excessively when I don't have an analogue control over the brakes.

But if I'm doing motorkhanas/autocross etc, sometimes a setup I make will have really low braking pressure because the car never reaches high speeds, but this means that the handbrake barely works at all; definately not enough to lock up the rears and hang the arse end out around a cone or sharp corner.

Your thoughts? Would this be easy for the devs to incorporate in the next version do you think?
I thought it used to be in LFS? I remember adjusting handbrake force in S1 days anyway
I still wonder why it was removed.

EDIT: it becomes quite annoying when using the UFR or XFR on autocross and realising you can't make quick direction changes
I like it my car doesnt lock the rears when the handbrake is applied.

You never adjusted your handbrake?

the handbrake is supposed to lock whatever wheels they are being applied to, obviously the manufacturers didn't intend it to be used while the car is moving under normal circumstances, but when your car is parked or in an emergency situation, it is expected that they are able to apply enough force to possibly lock the wheels (If necessary).

If your rear wheels don't lock when you apply your handbrake, I seriously suggest adjusting it.
Yeah, thumbs up for that. Since LFS is getting this "real life" thing about limited sets and stuff, i think the HB adjustment should come back, since every car has this nowadays.

I believe it was removed a while back to block exploits that people were using where they hacked in negative force to make the car go faster.

Locking it solved that. But anyway, its a handbrake so as long as it holds the car on a hill that is all thats required in a race sim

I've only ever owned one car that would lock the rears whilst the car was moving. They aren't meant to generate sufficient torque to lock the wheels in motion, just enough to stop them from becoming motive.
The handbrake in our Focus barely holds the car.. If you get in it too violently on a steep slope, you can start creeping forward

I think my dad has adjusted it several times before, but it keeps loosening up

So... did you even read my post?

Going by your logic, this thread was obviously started for no reason at all
+1 from me

In rally + drifting, e-brake is used alot, and a stock car should be able to lock the rear wheels when aplied(my stock 91mod Vectra 1.8i does :P )
It is kind of adjustable, if you change the brake balance more to the front the handbrake will be weaker and opposite for the back.

That's not true.

The best way is too use clutch and handbrake on rwd cars.
You are right, it does work if you adjust brake force though. Just change brake force to maximum and the handbrake is stronger too, or just use a Joystick.
Yeah I thought I mentioned all that in the first post. But I can't always use a wheel where I'm playing and with a keyboard that means that all four of your wheels will lock up every time you touch the brake, just so you have access to a locking handbrake when you want to hang the arse out
Sorry didn't read, to not lock the wheels while having high brake pressure is to use ABS which is included in test patch Z28.
Yes that works, but is not an ideal substitute. I don't know about you guys but I hate driving aids with a passion

EDIT: Maybe I'm just pedantic
no, i agree, especially since xfg doesnt have abs, nor does uf1, and both NEED handbrake to make sharp turns.
any car's handbrake can be adjusted IRL
its a simple matter of tightening a cable. its actually a lot like tightening the brakes on a bicycle.
FYI, if you are one of those people who cant lock the wheels with a handbrake in your car, i would suggest doing more arm exercises.
its not going to be easy to do, and with good reason.
the only time its used is in emergencies, and most people would be in the habit of yanking on it as hard as they could.
if it was overly sensitive, it could cause problems in these cases.
i can easily lock both rear wheels in both of my cars however.
one uses a hand brake lever, the other uses a foot actuated emergency brake
