(lyt) (eye candy) smoke generators?
So... an intriguing picture I recently saw in lfs.net gave me this idea: Wouldn't it be cool if we had the ability to put smoke generators on the road?

The current layout size function can help us determinate how much smoke we want to generate.

There already is smoke; there already is a layout builder; there already is a resizing function for marshals. What is needed is to combine them and voila: We get a nice smoke effect that can hide obstacles in the course and make the racing more exciting. Don't you think?
Do you really think it would be a good idea..

Imo, it would be cool for layout builders to be able to shorten the available reaction time for drivers (if you got what I mean).. Wouldn't it
I actually support this idea - it would look really neat, for example marking drift layout starting place, and maybe for something else?

If a particle emitter is added, it'd have to be a proper implementation:
  • Adjustable particle size, including:
    • random size with adjustable min/max range.
    • gradually increasing or decreasing.
  • Adjustable particle velocity and direction, emission rate, longevity and colour or colour range (gradient).
  • Different particle shapes to choose from.
  • Affected by wind (yed/no toggle)
  • Can collide (yes/no toggle)
And everything should be adjustable via InSim, including the initial placement of an emitter. I suppose I just gave this idea the kiss of death
My fps is low enough as it is.

So is mine, but I don't think that this will affect it that much... Still, we can't be sure unless some of the devs gives us a comment on it.

Let's just say there's a reason the default particle longevity (dust, smoke, grass spray, dirt, etc.) is only 2.4 seconds
Modded to 8 secs I occasionally fall below 60fps with enbseries when spectating 2 or 3 cars on hotties smoking it up.

I didn't take the ability to mod longevity in mind when replying to that... But I don't really know so much about LFS anyway, so I was just merging a bit of personal experience with the tiny part of what I have heard over the forums - which means that I'm prolly talking bs
I think its more to do with the number of particles than their longetivity.

Just as people can overkill a map with barriers/cones/etc. they can abuse particles. With that said, its definitely an interesting idea. What makes you so sure that this will work and that people arent going to be able to circumvent the "hiding smoke" bit though?

People use speed hacks too now... You can't be sure of anything. Plus, I never said I'm sure they won't be doing it.

Also it would ruin the challenge for them which will mean that they lose even when they win(if you get what I mean).
/stupidity on:

smokemod doesn't work with the Z-patches tried that.
what's enbseries/ how to use it?

/stupidity off:

thx

I will let you make the conclusions on your own.
By the way: My lil bro has one of the many smoke mods from there and it is working. I saw it with my very own eyes
*cough* thx *cough*
