well technically the new "NSX" is mid-engined as the engine is behind the front axle.

I think they made the new "NSX" with the JGTC in mind. Remember the old NSX JGTC cars which were subjected to weight penalties just because it was MR?

I still do not like that idea though. And if they made the NSX in the league of supercars worldwide (Like the Nissan GT-R)... Yeah!
