Cheap PC
Hi, a friend of me wants to buy a new pc at the store but i said it's much cheaper if he bought a custom build one, he just wants to use it for internet and downloading movies/music.
Could you guild put together (online offcourse) a cheap pc that will do the job? :P

Serious please.
If he only wants do browse the web and download stuff then a pretty much bottom of the range PC would be fine IMO, but with a bloody big hard disk, maybe 1tb, if he isnt into gaming or anything then he aint gonna need anything fast or expensive.

A couple of questions:

1. What's the budget?
2. Does he need to play high definition videos on the machine?

Well his budget is more than enough, but he wanted to buy a cheap pc from the store which is much more expansive then a custom one. So he told me go find me a pc thats about 300-400 euro and i'll see what i do.
He does use a HDready TV as a screen, but he won't watch the movies on his pc.

btw i won't be building the pc so it has to be assembled at the shop, that also raises the price though.

Take a look here for some pre-built AMD machines from the site hrtburnout linked to above. Even at the top of your price range (400 Euros) there's not a lot of choice. It seems as though hardware in Holland (on that site at least) is more expensive than in the UK (based on the pre-built systems available on eBuyer in the UK for a similar price.

If the signal is just being passed from the machine to a TV then the machine has to be powerful enough to decode the video (if he's going to be watching HD content that rules out some machinery).

Have you got any local computer shops? You could try going to them directly and asking them (rather than online shopping).
if he just wants "a computer", why not look at the MSI wind line? i'm liking my AP1900 quite a bit, only cost me ~$500 and it draws 35W max. yeah, sure, it's an atom with a crummy intel onboard video, but when you want a cheap computer for the sake of having a computer, why not?
It's not much cheaper. Hasn't been MUCH cheaper to build your own for at least 10 years. Well not in the UK at least. The only real advantage to building your own is that you get the exact specification you want. But when you factor in support then for most people it's not worth the trouble.
If he wants to play HD content the machine has to be a real computer, not a Barby netbook.
He doesn't, he only wants to download it and play it on it's ps3.

You mean download movies, burn them to disk and play them on a PS3?
