The online racing simulator
Generally- the small car top-down racing game
Racesimcentral.com had been closed down because of an error along with a few other racing games. One of them is Generally. If you find LFS addicting then you would probably get addicted to this game. It's freeware and the size is only 1-2mbs.

The game has 31 tracks already in it and a track editor with it! You can also create your own sounds but the files must be wav. music files. For additional tools go to http://www.generally.com.ar/, you can find a car editor, main help file, options tool, track tool and savegame reader.

I've been addicted to this game for a long time now, nearly 4 years! It's a very fun game to play, the AI's are great for battles, and you can do everything you want to: race in tarmac, dirt, snow or even if you're a crazed guy, you can run over the people in the grandstands!
to this game.

EDIT: There are some really good tracks for download on the GeneRally ToM (Track of the Month) website. http://tom.rscsites.org/

The Plain of Infinity

I can't remember, this was back in 2005 and now that RSC is dead I don't have them
legendary game! \o/
I remember endlessly tweaking car models, settings, and making tracks, or generally (ahaha pun) hotlapping.
Top-down racers are good fun to make . Easy too.
I'm also happy if you can post your own home made tracks and cars here. Just remember if your posting a track:

THIS THREAD IS WORTHLESS WITHOUT PICS!
LFS track imported to GeneRally: Fern Bay GeneRallyCross Green
RallyCross fans shouldn't have a problem recognizing this one although the height map isn't very accurate.

Nice!

Now make BL2 and FE5, please.
I made FE1 ages ago buts its been lost forever now.
Was this ever open source? I think this would be the *perfect* test bed for my AI testing if I could get access to the code for it. But I doubt it is, I looked all over the site and couldn't find anything.
Haha, it has been a great game, I was playing it all the time Here is Kyoto Ring Oval and National tracks

I think there is the Blackwood track (both configs, no car park) for Generally somewhere in this forum. I fear it's gone with RSC as well
Never understood this game. Tried it once and didnt understand why people bothered. Must have missed something.
Well its a bit out of date now, I wish it had windowed mode; or at least 32 bit color support and my native resolution. But it is quite interesting as you can turn tire wear up or down, damage up or down which makes you need to pit a lot more often in some cases. It's a lot more addicting than I first gave it credit; but I don't care for its user interface.
Its a brilliant little game, a simple 'slip' model means you need big skills and races can be frantic keyboard bashings. Brilliant!

If only it ran in 1920x1200 or indeed windowed..

Somehow development has restarted recently. Here's the first official release for years.

Well. JamesF1 and someone else took over the Development and ported it to SDL and added some objects and features. This came out abouta month ago. I'm very stoked on it, but have been too busy to get anything done inside GR.
Is there any kind of online in this game?
So do I.
It's still good fun playing offline, I just wish there were more AI spots...
