Hi, after buying my license I want to get my laptime on the Blackwood circuit down to about 1:35. I don't want to move onto other tracks until I shave as much time as possible. At the moment, my best is 1:37. I'm curious how much the setup of the car affects the time. I've already reduced teh fuel to 8% or lower and I reduced the height at which my car sits.

Is there some sort of video/tutorial to go through the setup screen and explain how each setting affects performance?

Thank you for your time.
Not really, setups are sometimes a "suck it and see" process.

Best thing to do is either

a) download a setup from the setupfield and compare the settings to the default setup, and try and learn what changes do what.

b) read Bob's setup guide (quite technical in places) and experiment with the default sets.

One thing to remember, a setup will not make you a faster driver.

Dan,

I think this pretty much sums it up. My advice is grab a setup from setupfield and learn to drive that. If your just starting to race messing with setups would be your last worry I think. though they are fun =P. I have played LFS for 2 years, I didn't start messing with setups until a few months ago. Setupfield gives very good setups as a whole, the other thing you can do is pick the top drivers in the race your doing and politely ask for a setup.

I started playing this month and used the world record setup at the time:

http://setupfield.teaminferno. ... ar_id=31&p_version=S2

it's now the second place time (PartyBoyU). I find it quite easy to handle, and I'm down to 1:34.19 hotlap time now, so maybe give that a shot. One nice thing is it has the brake power quite heavily reduced so you don't need to worry about locking up the brakes into T1.

Makes sense, but it's also quite good for us newbies, one less thing to worry about. Threshold braking over the crest of that hill is a pain.

Dan,

Whats that and where is to download ?

Ok, I've installed my Thrustmaster Race Wheel and I started off worse than the keyboard. But now I'm picking it up again and getting persistent 1:37's. Hopefully soon that'll drop to 1:36. I've also (i think) optimised my setup.

Threshold braking with the XFG isn't faster, no matter the controller or skill level (at least at Blackwood). For corners that can take a little more braking, just shift down a bit earlier.
Since it's FWD and does pretty much all of its braking with the front wheels, varying the shift times has the same effect as threshold braking but is MUCH more consistent and much less likely to cause lockups (locked diff).
Interesting - thanks. I guess that explains why you can use the same braking points with PBU's setup as you can with other setups with much higher brake strengths. Good info
try press litle gaz when u braking
Not sure what you mean - all the time? Or just blip it as you turn in? I tend to go to maintenance throttle as soon as I stop braking, seems to keep the car stable and the revs up...
Thanks, PBU - much appreciated.
