Insurance for a test-drive
Do people actually bother with this when going to test-drive a 2nd hand car at a dealership?

I know you're supposed to, and all the guides say you need to bring documentation that you're insured, but.. really?
I think most cover you on their insurance, part of the pain in the arse of being young is you can't get daily insurance. Its inconvinient, yes but id get some kind of cover really, up to you though.
I'm not young
Well i think you know what to do then...
I think most motor traders will have insurance for test drives on their motor trade insurance policy. Or at least my dad does...

You could just check with the dealer first what the arrangements are... or something?
I think that if you are on a test drive (and accompanied by someone from the garage) then you are covered on their traders policy, kinda similar thing tio when you are a learner driver having lessons with an instructor in their car i guess, you don't need your own insurance as theirs covers you, im not 100 on this tho.
Ah right, so you only really need it if they let you take it out on your own?
Well my uncle has said he has a policy where if he gives someone permission to drive the vehicle somewhere they're covered. But i doubt this, best to check with the garage before you go, ive never been on a test drive but i doubt they let you drive it on your own? Not worth the hassle really, quite alot of them will let you have some fun anyway

That would be a sensible assumption. Although most smaller garages probably wouldn't let you take it out on their own. I'm not a motor trade insurance broker, but the insurance most likely costs more depending on the amount of risk that the dealer takes when doing test drives. In other words, there's quite a high chance of it being nicked if you let the customer take it out on their own.

I think only main agent garages would allow you to test drive it alone anyway, especially with all the various 24 hour test drive things that I've seen advertised.
I know when my dad test drove a kia rio they didn't ask for insurance or anything and the dealer didn't come along. (Ok I admit the dealer has known my dad for years)
Plus the fact that it was a kia.
still a 10k car. And before you say it. They aren't a kia dealer they are a Kia service centre who also sell some cars. They are mainly a fiat dealer and my parents both used to have clios where they got from there. http://www.bsmarson.co.uk/

It's times like this i'm glad I have driving other cars on my policy
lol. nice one
I know lol, was only joking, its kinda hard to shake off the image of the older kia's i guess, the same as skoda's, new ones are good, but old ones looked and were a bit shite, but not now.
i know i was just messing with you. Only problem with Skoda is the doors ****ing hurt they are that heavy. My mate trapped her fingers in the door of her mum's Octavia and they swelled up so she couldn't write for about 2 days.

For example last week when the snow was really bad we had to get up a hill in my mum's little picanto (1.1 gutless thing) (which is right below me [sorry picanto :P]) the mondeo behind us couldn't get up but the little picanto some how did it.
skinny tyres i guess, they dig in better!
must be

Quinn, they are expensive usually but they are the cheapest for me.

Benefits:

Mods - they dont care (as long as it's not suspension / engine),

Cars - "no charge to upgrade to a group 12 car"

and most importantly DOC - I can drive *any* car not owned by me, with 3rd party cover, for an unlimited mileage without evening informing them first. They dont have a problem with me insuring my car and driving my Dad's Ferrari (hypothetically, he has a POS Kia) all the time.

And all of this is on a third party fire and theft policy, it's crazy!

Yeah, they look brilliant - the quotes I've been getting from them are almost half the price of everywhere else.

Have you passed your test yet? They *will* double your quote when you pass.

They are also meant to try to weasel out of claims, but with TP it doesn't really matter...

Too bad on my 1.4 206 they want £2600 on my own policy 3rd party and £3500-£4000 fully comp :\ If they could do £2600 fully comp id have gone for it just so i could drive other cars but :\ Hm, Jack are you fully comp on your parents policy or your own?
