My notebook's LCD screen stopped working
Hi,

I know that there are better forums to ask this question, by I don't want to register there so I'll ask you guys here instead:

I have an ASUS A6VM notebook, cca. 3 years old. Everything was fine until suddenly about a week ago the screen wouldn't show anything since boot. The LCD's backlight turns on, but there is no pixels lit, no picture, nothing, rien, nada.

After a few restarts the screen got some sense into it and started working again.

Today however, it wouldn't start at all. I tried the usual "knock on it" solution to no success. I unscrewed the hinge through witch the cables from GPU go to the LCD and found nothing suspicious.

My external monitor plugged through the analog VGA (D-SUB) connector works just fine. The GPU is fine then. The internal LCD doesn't seem to be recognized by Windows 7 (which it did a week ago).

Also, I cannot get to BIOS to check things out. If I press any button during boot, the comp freezes.

WTF?
I had a similar issue with my old LCD monitor for my desktop PC, it was 7 or 8 years old, giving it the occasional knock worked temporarily. I have noticed prior to the screen not turning on, I saw the backlight start fading occasionally. I may think the backlight is dead on your screen, but it's only 3 years old. Is there warranty of any sort on your laptop? I have a netbook from that company, and its warranty was 1 year.
OK, I've got an update on the situation:

The monitor works, however only after I close and then open the notebook lid. It changes my external monitor resolution from its native 1920x1200 to 1024x768 and the internal LCD display show the screen 4 times in a mozaic.

The bottom of each of these 4 screens is also somewhat distorted. I cannot change the resolution nor the refresh rate to any higher than 1024x768x60Hz.

Both the internal and external screens are cloned and I no more cannot change this without restarting the computer.

I am using Windows 7 Professional 32-bit and nVidia go7300. I have tried both original nVidia drivers and Omega drivers to no success.

I also cannot get to BIOS during boot...well I can, but I can't see shit!

Oh and to Zipppy: The warranty ran out one or two years ago and the backlight works just fine. The screen in itself is OK, there must be a problem in the connection or in the graphics card I guess.

Any ideas please?

Try taking the laptop to shop where you bought it and let them handle it for you... I think it's the only option.
