Just bought an S2 account
I brought an S1 account, ad realized there were like 3 - 4 active servers available for on line play ... that was useless for me.

SO i took the jump, and went to S2, theres plenty more servers and im enjoying the on line play as well as all the additional cars.

Few questions :

1) When the sirocco comes out, will i have to pay for it ?

2) Any tuts for driving the F1 range of cars ? Any set ups for the BMW F1 car ? Haing trouble controlling the big ones

3) Also, is there a CHEAP wheel i can get ... say £20 max (£25 ABSOLUTELY TOPS) Please dont recommend me one any higher than that.
Ive already paid £24 for s2, and cant justify spending £25 + on a wheel (= £50 all together)

Thanks for any replies and help.

No, Volkswagen Scirocco will be free for everyone with at least S1 license.

You can visit www.setupgrid.net or setupfield.teaminferno.hu for some setups. But basically, be careful with the throttle
Logitech momo is probably the best wheel for a low price. It is a bit more than your price but lasts a long time, you can probably get one on ebay cheap like 10 usd...

Problem is that if you skimp on the wheel you will lose out on the plus points it brings to the game(s). You can use the wheel for other games as well.

Second hand Logitech momo or driving force pro (if you can find one with your £) would probably be your best bet.

As for tuts for driving the bigger cars, the bigger cars really need a progressive throttle, like a pedal. Basically you need time driving them, there is no short cut. Driving the less powerful RWD drive will help.

Thx for the responses.
I look into the Momo wheels.

I saw a nice Microsoft wheel on ebay £7 ... but its pick up only, and 20 miles away

@garph ... tbh, the F1 cars are easier to handle then the RWD's, such as the 2 cars in the top right corner (not familiar with names or initials yet )

I go into a turn at say ... 60mph, let go of the throttle, turn gently, and i spin out, trying my hardest to fight back the over steer with the mouse.

I can take a corner in an F1 car at 60+ due to the heavy down forces, and wide, heated tires.

My main problem with the F1 car, is me clipping the grass verge on a turn, resulting in a spin out, and the tires getting bald patches as a result of my harsh braking

...anyway ... i guess ill practice a bit more, master my corners, go easy on the throttle ... and try to loose control, in a controlled way.

Cheers again guys.

spending say £90 on a controller to play only 1 game is not justifiable (DJ HERO anyone?)
but buying a wheel means you can use it in all games that use cars. you can use your wheel on GTA also.
you can also use the pedals as a rudder in flight sim.
my first wheel was a siatek R440 (bought it for £25 new). not a bad wheel to start off with but once you purchase a more expesnive wheel (even a DFP) you soon realise that a cheap(er) wheel gives you a cheap(er) experience. don't get me wrong, i was still able to race with the R440. it's just that the more expensive wheels gave more precission and feedback.
One year I have the Logitech Momo racing (I bought it 50€ fdp in = 43£).

Before that I have the Logitech formula vibration : http://www.ciao.co.uk/Logitech ... l_and_pedals_set__5780629
There is no force feed back, but it's a good way to begin sim with a wheel.

Sorry for the price, but I can't propose you a cheaper wheel.

Sorry to say but: Please, take that back!

You cannot properly use a wheel in GTA IV. Not only that it's not just plug&play (you have to read through endless forum posts) but still if you finally have set it up properly for the game you still have a very irritating deadzone in the steering that made me give up trying to use my wheel there.

Regarding the opening post: Having a proper wheel for 20 bucks may become very difficult. I only had/have experience with two wheels.
My first one was a Logitech Formula Force EX. It featured two analog pedals, force feedback, nearly 200° rotation and many buttons. Overall that would be what I'd recommend you. Problem was that it did not last very long, the wheel grew backlash (if that's the right word) and the pedals started sending input without my feet pushing them down.

What I got after was the Logitech G25 you don't want to know I guess.

Now my conclusion is: Force feedback is a must and... keep your pay check!

I did because it is possibly the most common part of the series that is played on PC. However wheel won't properly work in GTA IV so you cannot generally say you can use it in GTA. That is just not fair.
i've played all but GTA IV.
from GTA 3 up worked with the wheel. and because i haven't played GTA IV i was unable to state the "it works on GTA IV".
EDIT: just found this: http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=394430 so you can play GTA IV with a wheel

Don't shout at me.

As I have already written (so you must have read) a dead zone remains in steering that cannot be removed. A Rockstar support member on the forum suggested to reduce max. rotation in the profiler to about 144°. That of course reduces also the dead zone but does not erase it.

I would very much like to try GTA IV with my wheel because the physics look very believable. Still even if the dead zone would be fixed, there would still remain a problem: Steering/throttle is not directly transmitted.

As you stand still and steer full left the wheels turn to about 40°. If you go 100mph and steer to the full left the wheels turn to about 5°.
The same with throttle: Hit it in still stand and you get lots of wheel spin. Go about 100mph, slide sideways and step on the gas: Nothing will happen.

That's because controls have been optimised for thumb sticks and digital buttons where it works without doubts really good.
Well if you want to buy a cheap wheel, stay with keys or mouse tbh!

Try to find a Logitech Driving Force Pro (I have just sold my 2 years old used one on ebay for 60€) - this is a good wheel and you will have fun with it! (don´t be scared if it only says: PS2 wheel - it works ootb!) Perhaps they are cheaper now.

If you want to buy a Microsoft Force Feedback wheel (I had one before I bought my DFP) you have to buy (and find first) the USB version with the red rubber - and be sure that the driver CD is included (you cannot download the driver anymore). The gameport version does not work anymore with any Windows version newer than Win98.

If you find such a MS wheel you also have to google for the registry patch that allows you reporting 2 axis for brake/throttle instead of one combined axis - else it would be very difficult to drive the bigger RWDs.

But as others said the Logitech momo wheels are very good too.

EDIT:
Btw: One of my Team mates is still using keys and he is able to drive faster than the WR in the LFR cars (LFR= LX6, RAC, FZ5)

who put you in charge of telling people what to do? first you demand i take back part of my post and now you tell me to stop shouting. too much noise for your eyes?

First I was not demanding, I said "please". Then I was telling you not to shout at me so you may notice yourself acting an ****.

I have no deadzones on my controller and my wheel works fine in any other game I tried. The deadzones are a GTA problem.
GIVE ME ALL YOUR MONEY!!! please.
see, it doesn't really work. saying please after a demand isn't ok. you'll find that the deadzones are your problem as others can play the game with a wheel.

Yes, we both did. I read all of that once when I tried to set it up. GTA IV does not support wheel control, that's all I wanted to say. You have to download an extra program (so it's not my fault but an issue of GTA IV) and if you have no G25 (see the thread openers budget) you can not be sure if that even works. Somebody with a Momo said the deadzones are still there.

I can't try it out at the moment because I lent the game to a friend.
I Have GTA IV and i play it with wheel when its Driving Missions :'D

looks like Logitech is the way to go.
I did my research into the MS wheels, turns out most of them use the MIDI port ... my pc doest have one of those in the sound card
Also turns out the drivers are hard to get hold of ... but the wheels look good and chunky.

Seen this on eBay ... i this >| |< close from getting one ...
Just waiting for funds to be transfered to my paypal account ... if i dont like it ... ill return it and invest £50 on a decent wheel.

One more question ... any one tried playing lfs on a Dual Core Atom CPU, with an Nvidea ION Chip ?
I have an AsRock 330 with the above specs, and was wondering how it would run. No time to install it and try.
lfs only uses one core. so even if your laptop had an opticore cpu, it wouldn't matter. (CPU)cache is an important factor when it comes to lfs. the only way to tell really would be to install and run the game. you don't need to play it. just load up a replay and see how it does.
