but seriously. you'd be better to use an old button from a joypad. infact, use the whole joypad. clamp it in such a way that when you tug on the nob, it presses a button.
you don't have to yank off a perfectly good nob. just don't use it.
Looks like you need to do more than a little re-wiring to get that to work, so you'd have to take the DFP apart anyway (which would help you remove the gear knob)
How does it connect to the DFP's gear lever switches/wires/connectors?
leave the original knob as it is and rewire your new one to the small circuit boards inside of it. Don't try unscrewing the screws on the knob itself, they're fake and made of plastic

DIY seq shifter is cheap and better than the crap logitech has. Put it in a housing. Add lever and mechanism and "borrow" the click switches from the logitech shift assembly and add longer wire and viola seq shifter.
