the thing with luge / skel bob is that it's normally a fairly non fatal sport as your not sharing the track with a great big lump of heavy equpment like the normal bob so as long as you stay within the track confines you probably will just slide to an eventual rest. like motor bikes it's not the falling off that kills but the sudden deceleration if you hit something, obviously you can get the odd freak broken neck etc but usually it's just limbs that get damaged. i see they're now going to raise the ice wall there to keep the competitors on the track if they have an accident.
i think one reason that this video and bike videos are so shocking is that you see the person, if it's a fatal car or plane crash you generally don't see the body hit
I'll try to watch as much of the ice-hockey tournament as I can. Looks like Russia and Canada are the favourites to win but I hope Finland will kick ass.
Also, I'll try to watch the events where Estonia has a shot at medals which means some cross-country skiing. Other events... only if I happen to be bored which is unlikely since you can't be bored while sleeping.
My favorite Finnish player is on the team, Jarkko Ruutu. He was a scream with his antagonizing antics on the ice when he played for the Pittburgh Penguins. I was really sad to see him go. He was my favorite player (aside from Crosby and Malkin of course.)
USA team is lousy. Patrick Kane is great, but the rest..... Ryan Malone on the 3rd line is a local from Pittsburgh. He was traded after Pittsburgh lost the Cup finals 2 years ago. He was a great gritty player, but nothing special.
Sweden has a tough team. Lot of Redwings on there. Zetterburg, Naslund, Sundin, Forsberg, Franzen, Holmstrom, lot of tough players there.
Canada has 2 amazing goaltenders, Brodeur and Luongo.
For Russia, watch Sergei Gonchar lining up his shot and shooting from the blue line. Any time Ovechkin and Malkin are on the ice, do not under any circumstances..... blink.
The Canadian team, in their home, with that goal tending, there's no way they are not going to take gold. Congrats to Canada already, LOL.
Canada - Gold
Russia - Silver
Sweden - Bronze
USA - who?
Aweful internet TV solution by NRK, silverlight wtf! Keeps playing for 10 seconds, then stops, over and over again. :banghead: Have to watch the BBC coverage to get a steady stream.
Ye, that's where I'm watching BBC.
Funny is, watching NRK there isn't available for my country lol. Apparently if you're in Norway and wants to watch NRK, you have to do it from here: http://www.nrkol.no/
And that's where the woeful Silverlight thing is.
Huh. I've actually been really impressed with the steaming site so far. Smoothest streaming video I can remember seeing. It even automatically adjusts bitrate as window size/bandwidth changes (up to 3.5Mbit). Compared to the summer Olympics stream it's night and day.
Just a shame it's locked to Silverlight (and thus its supported platforms).
If I didn't had to manually press play every 30 seconds, I could put up with it. As I understand a lot of other people have that problem too. Automatic bitrate adjustment is nice though.
I have the same problem :S its irritating as h**** but some times it works :P (terrible sentence :P) silverlight aint that bad but its iritating as hell that they dont show it on regulare nrk.no :S
