Holy batman... i've been in development over 10 years in various forms from being a developer, to supporting technology, to deploying it and managing teams... I sure am glad I ain't your manager. I think your decision to move from "commercial game" development to running your own show was a brave move, but I gotta admit, there are some pro's to the commercial world... one of them is commercial pressure to releasing software in a timely manner and having people around you skilled in communicating delays and updates etc to the business and customer community.
I love LFS to bits, it has been my main source of online gaming enjoyment for over the past 5 years. In it's current form it is awesome and any improvements are just adding to the fun.
But guys, come on... really? Not a single update with any meat? Are you really going to tell everyone about a server move and not give any more information about the next release other than that line above?
Did you not take into consideration the fact such awful communication is going to fuel the fire of your CUSTOMERS already waning dedication? CUSTOMERS... that's what everyone on this forum is... a customer. It's as though you really don't care about the reputation this fantastic game is getting and are actually willing to add to the ammunition for the conspiracy theories and rumour mills.
You guys are nuts Or maybe smoking or drinking something stronger than I can get my hands on!
And i'm sure most of you who think that "quality takes a lot of time" have not actually worked in the real world of business.
Yes, a good product takes a huge amount of effort. From lots of development and test cycles to careful design and scoping.
But quality of product is useless without good customer relationships and timing of releases. In the dot com boom of the late 90's, early 00's, I saw many companies with the most amazing technological ideas totally and utterly fail due to terrible customer support, poor sales strategies and awful management.
To be honest, I am totally happy with the current version, a new release would be a laugh and it would be nice to get some improvements and fixes. But i'm amazed at how the communication is being handled... I suppose I should be emailing the guys directly offering help and assistance, but i've tried that in the past and know others have to no avail...
Come on chaps... give up at least a paragraph or two on what's going on. Ease the pain for some people here
You do have to admit it's only a small group of 3 people working on an amazing project, with only 1 coder, it can take longer then any other development.
Though I think their support is pretty good, when you have serious problem they always respond via e-mail, and they deliver wonderful quality of the product they produce.
Me having also played S1 in the past and now seeing how S2 slowly but still very well developed, makes me already satisfied.
I have been an addict of the game from day 1 I played it, and I will never stop loving it.
Yes they work slow, but come on their privateers!
And I don't care they work slow, they at least provide SUPERB quality!
Something developers like EA, and others can learn from.
