Nvidia Car
Maybe some of you remember this thread back in November about a project for school (I'm studying car design). The presentation was today, and I'd like to share the final result with the LFS community.
Keep in mind that people usually think a designer is there only to design beautiful things, and that's not right. We're almost inventors, we must be creative and we must think about how to solve problems. We must be able to imagine the future, because we design for the future. What I mean is that the purpose of this project is not to design a beautiful car, is much more, and aesthetics is something secondary.

That said, I'll explain the concept:

Nvidia has three different kind of customers: people who don't even know they have an Nvidia graphics card and as long as their computer works they don't care if it's Nvidia or Durex, 3D modelers, and then gamers and/or overclockers. The car has been designed for those last ones, thus, is a car to have fun. But you can have fun with many cars in the market today, so, why is the Nvidia car different?
Well, usually videogames try to meet real life, but in this case, real life meets videogames. The front part of the car, even the floor, is transparent, and the driver is seated as low as possible. This makes his view like the bumper camera in a videogame, seeing only the road. Then there is a rear seat. This driver can drive seeing the car from above/behind, that means, like the exterior camera in a racing videogame. To mix even more these two worlds, virtual and reality, drivers can choose any control available in racing games. There is a gamepad, a couple of joysticks and a steering wheel with pedals so drivers can select the one they prefer at any moment. They can also switch the control of the car between them, that means, both drivers can drive (not at the same time).
The car is powered by an electric engine in each rear wheel (I'm sorry, but petrol engines are not part of the future). The fact that is rear wheel drive gives more fun to drive, and also having separated engine in each wheel makes it easier to control while drifting.

I know the car is impossible to produce and sell because of the regulations and all that stuff, but that's not the point of this project. There are things I still have to explain but I've written too much already so is enough and anyway some of them are hard to understand for someone who's not a designer so it's worthless.

So enjoy the pictures and feel free to criticize. By the way I know is not perfect and teacher told me a couple of things to improve, but my mark was still 30/30

Title says enough. Do not want. I suppose the drivers of this car are crap, and the car will cost aLOT.

Let the flamewar begin.

I think it's an interesting concept, although definitely not one that will fly for most conventinoal petrolheads (not that it matters).

There might be more to explore beyond different control method inspired by gaming, for example probably the ability to programe the performance of your car (overclocking?), interchangable hardwares, or multicore structure with individual modulised parts etc.

Using Gaming devices for driving is most of the time an disadvantage, so the idea of it will be more a gimmick if not supported properly, howabout using the programmability to help disabled drivers? If there are real benefits such control methods can bring to the world, it will be alot better than just a show/gadget/attention seeker kind of car.

I would question how would an Nvidia car be different to a AMD car, or an Alienware car as well, maybe its not in your brief, but being an Nvidia car it should embody the philosophy of the brand. The car is definitely cyber related, but it seems to be more related to the physical interface rather than display hardwares. (which is the core of Nvidia's business) It might actually fit Logitech or Alienware better if the control interface is the core of your concept, so what relates this car to Nvidia except being cyber?

I agree. But the thing is, for one petrolhead, there are 1000 drivers who ar not car enthusiasts and see a car just like a transportation method. Car companies are business at the end of the day so...

Well I had many ideas about that, especially the overclock one, but this is supposed to be only a project of exterior and controls weren't needed. That was an extra work I did because I had the time and I felt like, but it's just an extra. I agree and I appreciate your observation though

Yeah that's actually my task, and once again, I completely agree with you. The car looks Nvidia but the logo of Razer or Allienware would fit too, so that's something to keep in mind mind for the next project. Maybe if I do a full car project I can add some features that make the car more Nvidia, but anyway, I have to improve this aspect.

Thanks a lot for your feedback, is nice to know the point of view of other designers. Keep in mind I just started the 2nd year so I still have a lot to learn
I'd like to see the car. The pictures you posted very efectively hide the shape of it. Could you provide clean and simple side, top, rear and front views?

My fault, I forgot to add them

Do you think you could use Photobucket?
GOD I HATE IMAGESHACK!
So slooooooooooow!!!
I don't see your images full size...
Car is reaaaaallllllllllyyyyyyyyy gooooooooooood.

But I would like ATI car more.
Ah, phew! Finally I can look at them in full size!

Love it!
Really awesome!
