Considering this thread: http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=8554 and the fact that there are still a number of people on demo and S2 servers using patch Q, it seems like it would be a good idea to poll the master server for the current version and display a little upgrade notice if a mismatch is detected (for incompatible patches at least).
It seems like there are some people out there which don't keep up with the latest patches or don't know about the compatible/incompatible patch system, so a brief explanation of the situation would probably be useful, otherwise players trying an outdated demo would only presented with a handful of hosts/players and would likely make false assumptions about the online activity.
