Some HI-Res skies that could possibly be used in LFS
those are just pictures though, those arent hemisphere 'HDRI' type images

So you do need to use that type? I wasnt sure

I used these in other games where you could just use a plain texture like this and they looked awesome. Shame you cant use them for lfs
Why cant one of those pictures be morphed in PS to resemble that? There is a 3d sphere option to transform images - used it a long time ago - very similar.

Only allowed 20 downloads a day though so choose wisely. I figure someone could get these into LFS if they wanted. I would but im not sure how the skies work.

Try to use search option in LFS forum
There are already avaible very hi-res textures for many tracks(made by Don and Kidcodea).

I think you'd need a picture of sky that is much wider. This is just a small square space, and I don't think it would look right if you attempted to make a sky from them.

guys.. gimme a few minuttes, im sure i can make any of those pictures into a probe!
Heh, the thing is, none of those pictures have enough footage to be transformed in to a proper skysphere. You'd need a panorama from the sky to get it done right.
ohh well.. :P i had the idea though..

because what you see on those photos is just one photo of sky which covers (lets say) 20 degrees of whole sky. and imagine you stretch that to 360 degrees in lfs.....
i started my modding career making alternative hi-res skies for gpl, did some for nurby using 12 different shots from ms flight sim (no, honestly) then stitching them together to form a seamless 360 degree vista that wrapped around. Took hours, then they had to be taken apart with pixel precision and a seamless lid made for the complete skybox. It was a real pain but good learning curve at the time for photoshop.
I love Don and Kid's hi-res sky pack, I think a good sky adds a huge amount of atmosphere to a track.
Alternative skies for Netkar, for comparison, are a real cinch, they just need a little gizmo to swap round the possibilities for different weather conditions.
