I diabolically HATE time-limited trials, they are far less effective than demos. Most people prefer to do what they need to do in their own time!! Not having some time-limit telling them how long they can try the game for!

Yup, same here. I have a free program called freelook. It uses a webcam like TrackIR and it's free. I also had another program downloaded from a long time ago. Does the same thing. I installed it on the new computer, then didn't try it. I forgot about it the following day and for the next few months. Just recently I remembered it and was going to try it. Time's up. I uninstalled and reinstalled, and it says time is up after reinstall. Never even tried it. How many other programs have been installed but not ever tried until after the trial period has ended? Has happened to me quite a bit.

  3. No online

  7. 14 day time limit.
  1. One car only (XFG) - Doesn't highlight the ability LFS has to model different drivetrains effectively
  2. One configeration only (BL GP) - it's not like they've got much more anyway
  3. No online - Can't take that away, it's essential
  4. No InSim - Agree there
  5. Nag screens - Yep, the demo should be more annoying!
  6. No posting on the "Improvement suggestions" section in the forum - Agree there
  7. 14 day time limit. - Bad idea, and would only be cracked anyway unless controlled online, and then what stops people making new accounts? Pointless

Also in some time zones the number of players online can be very small and if it wasn't for demo players you wouldn't be able to get a race in anything other than the BF1 which would also cause some S2 lic people to loose interest in LFS as well...

Yeah, ok that's a good point.
To me the demo is not really a big deal. If it stays the way it is that's fine by me. I just think there's a bunch of people playing the demo forever and I think that's a shame. Not that I want their fun in the demo taken away just because they don't buy S2 or anything, quite the contrary.
I just think they're missing out on a lot in S2. But maybe it's just a small percentage because I regularly see people going from demo to S2 here on the forum.
And the time limit could also be based on the days actually played instead of the game being installed. If that's possible.
Anyway whatever, all is fine
8. No LFSTweak compability

Incase we ever get a patch U compatible LFSTweak
The demo should be timed and i think they should use the Rb4 instead of the XRG/XRT(to show all lfs cars don't oversteer). Otherwise the demo is pretty good the way it is.

Some people buy software and others do not, they will use free or cracked. Its the same with music, films or anything else you care to think of. You will never change this and you will also NOT be able to force them into buying.

The demo servers have many people on them.... This is GOOD.

It means people new to LFS get to try it online and see that it works while other people are on the server. Lets look at rFactor... Has a demo that is so far off the released version its not funny and no real demo online scene. Now look at the online community for registered and you will see its empty.

LFS has got it right!
Quote from danowat :Bottomline.

Demo racers who continue to use the demo for long periods won't buy the full version, why?, because they are cheapskates.

No, it's because LFS is overpriced for casual gamer who want just have some fun at weekend.
How much is LFS in your country? How much are other games? How much are PC's (a range please, so we can get an idea of what PC stuff costs). What is the average wage in your country. How much do you earn. How much is internet access?

I think it's VERY likely that if you can afford to buy and run a PC, have an internet connection, and possibly a wheel (I say possibly) then you can save up for LFS in a couple of months at most, if you want it.

? HERE (UK) LFS is £24, to buy a boxed game from shop is £35, from a website is between £25-£30, so actually, its cheaper! And don't you dare say "of but in xxx on average people earn 20p a year" as you are sitting at a PC, not just any old pc mind, but a pc capable of playing LFS.

Speaking about games, we have very interesting situation in Russia - games cost here about 150-300 roubles (5-10 USD), and they NOT pirated, they localized (fully translated to russian, without english content, so unusable for non-russian speakers ). So LFS costs about 5 times more than usual game (RBR for example).

Yes, i can afford LFS. But i don't think that price is reasonable for me. I'm not going to spend several hours everyday with it, trying to beat WR, i'm just playing several times every week.

Nonsense! £24 is cheaper the £40 you shell out for most pieces of junk.

nope, their pirated!
Quote from Jakg :nope, their pirated!

No, they not. Sure, there is a lot of pirated CDs, but i'm personally buying only licensed stuff. Dunno, how our local publishers make deals with original publishers, but this works
i dont think its too overprised really, i think its a good offer, like said earlier, normall games are £30+ with about the same content as lfs

fraid it isnt true, you cant get new games for £5 legally

Quote from Jakg :nope, their pirated!

hmmm......

He just explained that they are Russian versions with NO English content. I would assume its publishers realising they will NOT sell games for the same prices as US & UK there so get the money they can. A legal sale is better than a pirate copy... no?

I take it you have been to Russia and know all games are pirate do you?

This is why Sony and the like use region coding so they can charge what the market will afford and not the same in every country. Having lived in a number of countries throughout the world now I know how prices are different.

For example... CDs, DVDs and Games are far cheaper in the USA than in the UK. How does that work, are the US one pirate copies. Or in Malysia things are cheaper again. Shops charge what the people in the country will pay, if they don't then people don't buy. This is called supply and demand!

Still think this is pirates?

ok, i thought you meant new games, but yes, we have legal £5 games over here, the same as the ones on that list, but you must also remember that you are getting unlimited online play (unlike others, ie WoW), and due to the constant updates LFS is always "new") I suppose you could always just buy S1, but hey, LFS is new, and you cant really expect...

Ok, im rambling, ive had a small amount of alcohol, so ill stop now
Quote from thisnameistaken :To get back on-topic: Not sure if there's any point in letting demo users view S2 replays - I don't think many would even bother. But I do think there's a lot of value in the oft-mooted "HLTV"-style slave spectator server idea, matched with a "dumb" client that can only spectate. It would help raise the profile of LFS league races in the wider gaming community and thus raise the profile of LFS itself.

if you mean what i think you man then you would get the iDi coming in to S2 servers and shouting random stuff, then voting to ban everyone!!!!
Time limitation could be a good idea, but I think 30 days isn't long enough. I say give them 3 months to get them totally addicted.
no, time limitation bad, very bad. I dont download games with time limitations
Will you be buying S2/3/4 anytime?
when I get enough money for it on June 23rd (birthday time!) yes I will be buying it straight away
like is said in the other topic, maby its good to merge the demo and the full game, but only allow demo users to join blackwood, and use the first 3 cars, thats gona be a pain to code im sure but it would be great for lots of new blackwood servers and prolly expanding the s2 playerbase becoz people get to watch the cars firsthand

It could be fun to have a demo and s2 compo, where you would have demo users in gtt and others in rb4 fxo
