Quote from Jakg : They claimed the old copier they found had done 48k copies, and it seems the older ones had 10GB drives in them. That means each page must of been able to fit in 213KB. Thats a PDF-level of compression, and even then only for pure text - I think a Photocopier would need a bit of a speedboost to be able to compress to a PDF level on the fly.

what other format could be used instead of PDF? JPEG maybe? a copier already has everything built in to scan and digitize a document. and now they have somewhere to store those documents.
the hdd might not even be in a conventional format.

Modern scanners can scan to USB, yes, but one from 2002? Compressing to JPG still takes a lot of CPU power that a copier shouldn't have.
Quote from Osco :how is a grainy image of my nutsack going to save me from suicide bombers then exactly?

I was beeing sarcastic with that 'saving' But make no mistake, that's the reason for this, so they can have all the data available in case of some 'terrorist plot'..

Because not everybody uses photocopiers for such special reasons like you

Ah, no. I simply said it never had to be an arse. I left the rest up to your sick minds
wierd, i heard something like this from radio few weeks ago. That people have digged out some old photocopiers and found there data that not everyone should see, by data they did easely sure where was it from (somekind of police department narcotics district or sth, hospitals...etc...) it was a pretty long story, i heard only few minutes so i don't know the entire story, but yeh....it is a bit scary though.
