Hi i would like to now if it was possible to make cars in LFS like in Rfactor, GTR etc. Because we always have to do it with the standard cars and something update cars (thankfull for that). But i would be nice if u could make existing cars like in Rfactor the Lupo cup(Volkswagen).

Grtz, Scrabby
No, it's not possible. Modding will (hopefully) be possible after S3 is released.

and then we would land up like rfactor where everyone has to download gigabytes of info to be able to join a single server.. sounds like fun
not going to happen.
I hope that the devs, if they release the mod tools (which I hope they don't), charge 60 pounds or so for them, of which 20 is refunded when something good is produced. Stops the rKraptor problem.
Then people will just download the tools illegally =/

Mod... Moods... Mooods... the game isnt finished yet, so there are no mooods
Charging for the modding tools would be a good idea. Cracked tools? Maybe, but if mods had to be devs-approved before, this cracker problem wouldnt exist.

I mean, you make a mod, devs approve it and then it can be used in any server. Otherwise master server will reject it.

Hmm... thats a good point.

exactly what I was thinking about some time ago. I would also like the devs to be involved in these mods in terms of quality control. This will force modders to put out only high quality mods.
If LFS gets the same type of modding system as in rFactor, that will be the day LFS will start going in a downwards spiral (IMO!). Sure there are some decent mods for it, but the good/crap ratio is very unbalanced. (Definitely do not want to start yet another lfs vs rfactor discussion btw)
It is a good idea, this quality control. But think about it from the legal side. Scabier would check them and say 'yes, we can use them'. Then, the owners of a car/track would come barging to them and say 'you said it's okay to use them without paying us, you either have to take it out or pay some big cash!!'

Yeah, theres no better job than testing loads of crappy and even crappier mods for the game you've just worked for 7 years and barely finished?

The charge for devtools must be big enough to scare most modders away!
I can see the rattles being thrown out of the prams already..

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!!!11111one Person A's mod got accepted and mine didn't even though itz teh bestest!!1111one waaaaaaaaaaaaaaah

Quality certainly counts (rF is majorly lacking quality mods with only a few additions IMO that really show people have achieved something more than a few clicks in a simple conversion tool).. but this sort of scrutineering wouldn't work I don't think.

There's also the other legality of original copyright. This is apparently why ISI won't / can't have their own forum like here at LFS.. they'd have to moderate / reject a lot of mods to cover their own arses (A1GP, TOCA immediately spring to mind) so there'd be little possibility of having a mod accepted in some (many?) situations. Fictional content is just as good IMO, if a car's fun to drive and the track's interesting I don't care if it's Nords or Ericschleife.. but naturally people would want non-fictional content too which would then be limited to private direct conections only with no real scoring (ala LFSW).

If LFS does ever become modable, IMO it's either all or nothing and hopefully the community would do the weeding

Ian

How should this work? The mod had to be released then!
If netKar Pro survives it's initial bug phase, we will see what happens with payware mod tools and how the community uses them.

Yes, I agree that would be a problem. If you're using reallife cars and tracks that is. However I'm not saying that these mods would have to be included in LFS or distributed through Scavier in any way.

And, would it be illegal to create a Formula 3 type car for instance, and just call it Formula... whatever? Maybe there are possibilities to do it legally as long as you don't go out and call it F3 Euroseries or something. But hey, I didn't say the idea is perfect And I'm no lawyer so maybe I'm completely talking out of my a*se

Yes, that would probably happen in some cases. But honestly, I wouldn't care. No matter what you do, whatever decision you make, and whatever direction you take, people will always have something to bitch about, you can never satisfy everyone.
They would know up front that the quality requirements are set high, and that there is a chance it won't be accepted. Ofcourse, the mod could still be distributed, and people could use it, just not online.

The mods could be distributed for offline use, the LFS community can try it and decide if it would be good enough to be used online. If the devs then see the community getting really excited over a certain mod, they can check it out themselves, and if that works out okay, they can just "flip a switch" on the master server, thus enabling it to be played online. That way they will leave the filtering to the community so they don't have to spend incredible ammounts of time on checking out every mod being released.

I think the quality requirements should not be about which car is cool an which not in the dev's opinion or something, just if it can really be called a finished product and not some half baked hackjob with silly trackmania tracks or something And if the mod truly adds something new to the game.

I personally couldn't care less if LFS becomes moddable in the future. Sure, some mods would interest me probably, but I can certainly live without them.
But if mods really need to happen in LFS, then I want it to be as good as possible. Quality over quantity at all costs. And if that's going to dissapoint some crappy mod makers, then so be it. I think before Scavier will complete the S3 stage, LFS will have a wider array of cars and tracks anyway, making mods (less) desirable.

Totally agree

disclaimer: this is just me thinking out loud, I am in no way responsible for stupid, badly thought out ideas on my behalf and , all imo
