1. That airfield would see few jets
2. When jets will occasionally take off/land it will only be a short burst of noise
3. Jets produce a much more consistant noise than a revving car.
Ok Tweak, what channel are you watching Top Gear on over here? I want to know! I did a search on the satelite and didn't see that Top Gear was broadcasted here in the States. I know Speed use to broadcast a show called Fifth Gear, is that the same show but titled for the US? It was a british show but I don't recall the names of who was in it. We do have some ridiculous car shows on the weekends. Usually the cast charactors are really corny, like trying to entertain us. Well, we aren't girls, we don't need entertained by the cast on these shows, the cars are the freakin entertainment. Like the show Sports Car Evolution. That Peter whats-his-name is ok, but his sidekick is a real numbskull.
Ah ha! Found it, Fifth Gear is still on SpeedTV. Appears to be on 7 am on Sundays. I don't know if this is the same thing as Top Gear or just a spoof of it for the US .
Edit: AAARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!! WTF is up with freakin TV programming in the US? On the website is a list of the current episodes and I already saw all 6 of them, 4 F'ing YEARS AGO!!! It's ridiculous, they make 5 or 6 shows, then play the same ones over and over again for years and years!!! I pay $50 per month for THIS!?!?!?
fifth gear is the biggest piece of shit known to the car world. i dont think top gear is shown in the states, and for good reason lol, whenever an american car is reviewed they hate it because it is too big as it is needed to fit all those fat americans. and they have next to no handling. they are ugly, and slow, and unreliable, and thats just it's people! according to jeremy clarkson lol.
Fifth Gear is produced for Channel 5 in the UK. Some of the Fifth Gear presenters were Top Gear (BBC) presenters in a previous life. That's the connection. Fifth Gear tends to lean towards more real world cars whereas Top Gear c**s over Veyrons. Take your pick. One crucial difference is that the presenters of Fifth Gear are all former racers themselves so I put more stock in their opinions regarding drivability. Top Gear focuses on style over substance.
A few weeks ago on Top Gear, the team had a go at doing a drive time radio show, if you want to hear the whole show then click here http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/thisweek.shtml scroll to the bottom of the page to Drivetime Radio, and click on "listen to the whole show".
I think all motoring programmes (in the UK at least) are utterly rubbish from a car buying point of view. I would bet a lot of money that the majority of people won't make a purchase decision based on the cars shown, whether they be Honda Jazz's or the latest 1350hp Veyrons.
However, Fifth Gear is saved by Vicki Butler-Henderson (if you don't facy her you're either too young or not car nut), and Tiff Needell (although few race drivers are complimentary about his driving). But they ALL take themselves too seriously, especially that shaggy dog presenter who I wouldn't let convince me to buy a hamster. The latest series (of the two episodes I bother to sit through) seems to be copying Top Gears style a bit more, which is a good thing.
Top Gear is saved by the fact that it realises it's not trying to help sell cars, or present useful facts. It's basically car porn. They do silly things, silly races, silly events, silly features to achieve one thing, and one thing only - good television.
I'd much rather have my eyes taped open to watch 24 hours of Top Gear than 24 minutes of Fifth Gear (unless it was 24 minutes of VBH outtakes ) I just hope that they don't take it too far, in an attempt to better themselves every series. They don't need to be better, just have different things.
The people that live near Zolder get free access pass to the circuit. I don't really know about the complaints around there. And about the airports, here in Belgium they complained a lot about that lately, but honestly... I think the complaining people are the ones that just moved in there, and aren't used to the noise. People living there a long time, they are used to it, they don't complain. But the people buying houses there (because it's cheap), they complain.
VBH has a killer instinct on the track, have you seen her race? Oh sorry, looks are more important *cries into mirror*.
Anyway, Brand Hatch went through this a few years ago when some idiot built houses next to the track. Now they want to turn Silverstone into luxury appartments too, and close Top Gear.
I have an idea, anyone who wants to cut noise pollution from racing cars should try living without their own car too.
It's sad to hear this but Top Gear is so hugely popular that there would be race circuits all over the UK falling over themselves to have top Gear set up camp at their circuit.
Did you see Sir Jackie Stewart teach Captain Slow last night around Oulton Park. Its things like that which money cant buy! I'm jealous I want to work on Top Gear
Edit: Poxy world cup interrupts Top Gear for tooo long!
did you see vbh in the red bull track attack on sat, finished first celeb and second overall beaten by one of red bull's test drivers, even better she was closing after recovering from a 1/2 spin
re noise, a while back i was at a lady's house looking at a lawn mower for her. she ,lives close to anglesey race circuit and has tripple glassing, not because of the race cars but because shes also close to raf valley. i was inside when two tornados were taking off and despite the tripple glassing you still couldn't speak until they released brakes and disappeared down runway.
apparently she couldn't sell house, if i'd had money i'd have bought it just for the noise
No, I missed it - driving across the country But the joys of bittorrent mean that I get to watch it tonight (or I could wait for the 7pm repeat on Tuesday). My Dad says it wasn't an especially good episode though.
