Quote from buedi :It´s just sad that Portal Prelude can´t be used with this Version of Portal

This is 100% the retail version of Portal as contained in the Orange Box
@Stefani24 and Hoshimodo: I guess both of you have other Source Engine Games activated in Stam (HL2 maybe?). After installing the MOD (which is an automatic process) it shows up in Steam. But after starting it tells me that no Source Engine Game is installed (which Portal is, but it doesn´t help).

Even in the Portal Prelude Forum there are people with the same problem... maybe the same people like me, who only have Portal activated in Steam

Edit: Some guy over at the Portal: Prelude Forums found a solution (Post #6) for all those people without any other Source game in Steam... I´ll have to try that now, so long... see you next week
what does the mod do?
Quote from logitekg25 :what does the mod do?

It's like a new game, and portal is a peace of cake (harhar) compared to Portal:Prelude
il get it i guess

THE CAKE IS A LIE
THE CAKE IS A LIE
THE CAKE IS A LIE

then the end came and i was so happy
What an awesome game, I suggest just to finish it for the ending song which is just as great as the entire game.
Most fun game I've played in a while, props @ the OP for posting about it being available for free on Steam.
it was a great game...wonder how they managed to fill it with 5/6 gb of data
Honestly, now all I want to do is go online and screw around with the portal gun tossing a companion cube at someone from across the map, or maybe see who can keep one at terminal velocity longer...
how do i know if it installed right, how do i use the mod, is it through portal, or is it a steam thing
The mod should appear in steam, but I suggest first playing the normal portal, otherwise Prelude is going to be way too hard.
diddnt appear in steam, but i probably did something wrong, never really used steam before

and i already beat it
Restart Steam, worked for me.
worked thanks

it said restart steam to make it work, but i thought when it wasnt a window it wasnt there so it was automacally restarted...but turns out nope, thanks again
well i tried the prelude thing, and no luck, tried the guide, no luck; now im just re-installing the prelude thing, and hoping for the best...in the folder where there was suppossed to be "portal prelude" and rename it to "portalprelude" i couldnt find the file, so i skipped it
Anyone tried "ren test 2" map from bethesda really great level, well designed and with brilliant gameplay ideas like a giant rotating room, took me forever but I finished it, i wish the actual game was this challenging.
Tried the game. Found it incredibly boring...

Downloading, got nothing to loose anyways. Is there an Online Mode? Or something?
Too much puzzle solving and subtle, dark humor, eh? Not enough wide open spaces with Nazis to gun down?
Quote from Forbin :Too much puzzle solving and subtle, dark humor, eh? Not enough wide open spaces with Nazis to gun down?

yep!
actually, i thought it was boring until i got a bitinto the game, once it started needing more brain power then patients to get everything lined up right, and patients to get to a part that you like, it is a great game

If you take it at face value (Portal based puzzle game...) then during the first few levels with a single portal it sux balls. But it's only a few hours long so stick it out...
I can see why they are giving it away free

Just feels like a HL2 mod....
it took me about an hour and a half to beat the game for me

i rushed through it though, never really had a time where i thought "hmm...no idea what to do"

had one where i was thinking the wrong way for a few minutes
