Nah, not a spotter per say, but I live almost next door to the airport now, so I thought I would run a few off.

/\ /\ More of a background ??, what, like the New York City skyline, or maybe Sydney Opera House and Bridge

Dan, lets hope you had a zoom lens on your new camera, they seem mighty close or where you trying to reenact that scene from Pushing Tin ??

Nice Pics btw, you can't beat a good old bird or two
This weeks 'Dan Watkins Challenge'...

You need to take a picture of... a Piper Cherokee

(nice pics though. Buy a Skylight filter, and it'll make the blue sky bluer. I'm taking my brothers 350D to Silverstone and maybe the karting).
Yeah, I have no clue how to use it really, was just an excuse to go for a walk round the block on a sunny day lol.

Dan,

Nice clear shots, you must have been quite close to get them on the 18-55 kit lens.

I too own a 350d, they are great cameras. As Tristan has already said, I'd advise you to pick up a skylight filter and leave it permentantly attached to the lens, that stops the actual lens getting scratched, and since the filter shouldn't cost you more than a fiver it's a disposable item.

Here's one shot from a recent shoot I did covering one of the many uni bands.
lol these are.. airplane pictures persay.. rather.. i was IN the plane lol

and this is... actually shots of what i will probably see again in the next few days (except this was from a year ago )

except the first one.. that one i just took while on a ferry ride with our car on a ship going from delaware to new jersey on the cape may-lewes ferry with my mom's sister

(a "good" camera wasnt exactly a choice i had last year lol)
these were taken with an olympus D-490

edit - hm.. can you see the front landing gear down on the last picture lol? that was taken in a flyin neighborhood (spruce creek) where the previous owners of Road Atlanta live

Nuse, drop the ..s all the time, it's hard to read when you type like you think.

Next time I go flying I'll take a camera with me too. My Mum is taking aerobatics lessons atm, so I'll try and get (one day) a pic of her and I upsidedown in the Bolkow BO-209
Dan: That camera has really nice quality. Me thinks I'll need to gets me one. Kicks the crap out of my current camera.

Try getting yourself into a ultra-light airplane. On many of those you can remove the doors. That way you can take shots from the air without the plexi-glass-effect. That way you can get pretty great results. Try for example taking shots of airplances that are in the air, or in the process of pulling up, from above. Those always look great.
In-air shots of gliders also always make for great pictures. They look a lot more fragile and elegant than motorpowered aircrafts (unless you go for jets).

those are pretty good for the kit lens! i like the first one.

here is something i did a few weeks ago with my olympus e500 @150mm:
